I was previewing some of the new PTS structural items and it really highlighted a long‑running issue in ESO housing. So many of the walls and building pieces look like they are older than the pyramids, held together by moss and dust. Giant holes, crumbling edges, missing chunks… everything looks like it has already lived a tragic life before we even place it.
💀 Distressed walls
🩸 Cracked floors
⛓️ Spikes and chains
🕯️ Gothic gloom everywhere
If it is not broken, it is brooding. If it is not brooding, it is full murder‑dungeon energy.
And look, some players love that. Ruins, crypts, spooky lairs, dramatic gloom. Totally valid.
But not all of us are hiding a psychopathic inner architect who wants to wallow in ruin, pain and blood. Some of us just want a nice place to spend time with friends without poisoning them and adding them to the decor.
And here is the funny part. We are the mightiest heroes in Tamriel. We wield phenomenal cosmic power, reshape reality, banish Daedric Princes, save the world before lunch… yet somehow we are stuck building in what feels like murder‑death‑kill living spaces. Surely if we can defeat Molag Bal, we can manage a wall that is not already falling apart the day it is made.
And honestly, I am tired of making everything Necrom‑based just because it is one of the only clean structural styles we have. The irony is wild. One of the few pristine, intact building sets in the entire game is literally called NECROm. When the cleanest option is the one named after death, something has gone very wrong in the catalog.
The real issue is that clean, intact structural pieces are the rarest items in the entire game. This is not new. It has been the dominant pattern across the entire catalog for years. If you want to build something that looks new, maintained or even just not actively plotting your demise, your options are tiny.
✨ Imagine what we could build with more balance:
🧱 Clean Breton stone
🔥 Fresh Dunmer tiles
🌲 Intact Nord timber
🌞 Polished Khajiiti sandstone
📐 Neutral, unthemed building sets that do not scream “someone died here”
This is not about taking anything away from ruin builders or goth enjoyers.
It is about giving everyone the tools to build the spaces they imagine.
More variety means more creativity, more styles and a healthier housing system overall.
ZOS, please consider adding more clean structural sets in future updates.
A little balance would go a long way for the entire housing community.
💬 What clean styles or cultural sets would you love to see added? Let’s brainstorm.
