Most requested feature of the ESO Reveal 2026 Livestream - unanswered ?

This was even pinned in the stream and people were really noisy about it in the chat. I get it was a recorded live stream, but can the question maybe be answered?
Or when are we about to hear about that?

It would be a part to help stopping the shrinking games population and unite the servers plattforms finally and crossplay is long due.

But that has been answered. Several times.

As Rich noted during Gamescom, crossplay is being worked on. There is a lot of work to go through because ESO was built way before crossplay was part of the industry. And there is 11yrs worth of content, systems and data to go through. The last thing we want is for systems to be heavily impacted by crossplay and have it an impact on your overall gameplay experience. So it's something we have to be extra careful about. Nothing else to report right now, but there is a team focused on crossplay.

So crossplay is a priority. As we have noted, we are actively exploring everything that crossplay would touch. Because all of that is additional dev work. We cannot stress this enough, this is a massive undertaking that requires meticulous investigation to make sure we factor in every aspect of ESO. Additionally we will need to building in time to either build or overhaul systems to make sure it works with crossplay without causing a ton of issues. And for an 11 yr old game that didn't have crossplay in mind when it was being build (since crossplay was not an industry feature yet) we would rather take the time to do this right.

I can assure you, if this was a matter of just flipping some switches to get crossplay online, we would have done that a long time ago. We are just as eager to get crossplay online so that you can play with anyone regardless of platform choice. But the time we are taking for crossplay is needed.

Honestly there's nothing more they can say other than "Yep, we're still working on it."

It is coming. We will get Crossplay. Not this season since they essentially have to rearchitecture the entire game for that, but the change to patches all dropping on all servers simultaneously is something building to that.

I see what you mean but i think since this is literally the most requested feature and incredible important for the games future - an update about the progress would be nice

Having the same update release dates for both PC and consoles is the start, right?

I agree they shouldn't have pinned the question if they had nothing to say on the subject.

But I also think crossplay is something we really need them to take their time to get right, because it could so easily go wrong in a wide variety of ways. Not just technical problems, the experience for players needs careful consideration too - for example consoles mainly use built in voice chat, but that's provided by the consoles, there's no equivalent on PC where players mainly use text chat (or 3rd party options in organised groups). Yes there's several ways that could be addressed, but ZOS needs to work out what they think will be the best one and then build a solution.

I'd like to see cross-play happen, but I'd much rather they take as long as they need to than rush it just for the sake of having something to announce, because done badly it could cause far more harm than good.

We got a new update in the interview that they just did. So even though they missed the chance to address it on stream, we got an update on it.
Can you speak further about crossplay? Is that something that is definitely coming?

Susan Kath: Crossplay is definitely coming, but it's going to be a while. We are working on it. It is a complex problem for a game like Elder Scrolls Online, which was not built with this in mind. There are a lot of considerations that we have to make. We've talked a little bit about this in AMAs: you know, things such as the economic differences between the console realms and the PC realms. We have to figure out a way to merge this in such a way that's fair for everyone who's participating in this. There's a lot of technical considerations underway. It's going to be a while, but I assure you we are working on it. You'll probably start to see over the next year stuff popping up on the public test server as we kind of start to test out some of these accommodations.

Since it´s on no list / roadmap i sort of believe they just drop the word crossplay here and there to keep the community patient and that´s it.
At least that it what it´s feels like.

Crossplay is a given but cross progression would be nice, especially for all the people who have made the switch from consoles to PCs over the last decade.

There has been an update, a massive glaring one: All platforms will now receive updates at the same time. That means they have synced the coding changes and timings. What now remains is ensuring the code bases match, and building the architecture to connect the entry pathways.

For the message being pinned, When we moderate, the stream moves really fast and sometimes we accidently pin something without meaning to. It was unintentional and I did not even realize I had done it until this thread. I apologize if it lead to anyone thinking there was a deeper meaning behind it.

    Greetings all,

As mentioned, when moderating, given how rapid the comments move, the message that was accidentally pinned was unintended. With that being said, we have decided it best to close this thread to avoid any possible further confusion.

Please be sure to keep an eye on the News page, as well as the News & Website Article Discussions forum category, for any potential updates on this matter.
