Doing it together like this seems so backwards to me. How is not the highest priority not to remedy the damage that subclassing has done to class identity, balance, the meta, and the player base? So many people just dont like it, or dont like what its done to endgame pvp/pve. And many just gave up on eso.
Why not focus on the balancing/refresh side first? And then do the animations after? Because I would imagine the animations must take up a big part of the time that is going into the class refresh as a whole. What if you could do 2 classes per update, instead of 1? Bringing classes to a viable state in a reasonable amount of time. And maybe next year we got the animations. I cannot fathom why you wouldnt do it this way. Because 2 yrs is a long time.
The more casual audience might not like the idea of postponing the animations, now that they know its coming, but priority matters and balance should always come over aesthetics. Plus how many people were actively asking for new animations this past year? Before zos mentioned it? Not that many, especially compared to the amount of people who have issues with subclassing/class identity.
Even if we still got the DK animations. Postponing the rest, and getting the balance done faster, would be a huge win with people who hated subclassing. You can feel the impact of subclassing on the community, and fixing it as fast as possible could only be a positive. This is something that you can actively change, right now, to remedy the issues subclassing caused. And even though im almost positive you wont change it, I still wanted voice my concerns about it.
On another note, i think the animations look awesome. Although i do have many concerns with them. How different are these animations going to make combat? Once all of the classes are done. Is this going to feel like a different game? Or completely different combat/flow of combat? What will the animations do to performance? For many people the combat is the main reason why we still play eso. And zos has a bad track record with animations. Is it really worth the risk to once again completely change the core of your game? And potentially alienate more of the community, like subclassing did? You dont have to make changes like this to make people happy, or excite players. But you always have the potential to alienate players when you change core functions of the game like this. I guess all that i can hope for, at this point, is that you guys are thinking about these things, and that it doesnt change the core of esos combat.
