Had you run any dungeons or trials within two hours of logging out?
The updated sets could possibly be comprised of gear you obtained if you did run dungeons or trials prior to logging out.

(There's the two-hour window you have for trading gear with your group mates with whom you ran the dungeons or trials. if that window was still active at the time you logged out, and you logged back in after the two-hour period expired, then the gear would have been bound to you when you logged back in, hence the updated sets message.)

There's a visual bug where if you log off with any uncollected tradeable gear (like from a dungeon or trial), it will tell you that all of those autobound pieces were added to stickerbook when in reality it was only the one or two pieces that you still needed to collect.

Like for example if you run a dungeon, you'll get about 3-5 body pieces and one weapon, all of which are tradeable. If the weapon is the only thing that you need in stickerbook but you don't bind it before logging off, then when you log in after the 2h timer expires, it'll tell you that you added 4-6 things to the stickerbook... but it was really adding 1 thing to the stickerbook and just autobinding the other 3-5 since you already had them.

that's what it was. i did run the daily DLC pledge, to collect a weapon. i forgot about that. but yeah, it was 1 weapon, so what you're saying makes sense, if that's the bug. i didn't have 17 sets on me though, at least i didn't think i did. maybe i had some other gear pieces in my inventory that i didn't know about. thanks for the answer

It is the number of items, not individual sets. It's just a badly worded notification telling you 17 items were automatically bound as they were from dungeons/trials and the 2hr timer to trade had expired.
