Housing should "do more"

In my opinion, housing should provide the utility that you have to go out of your way to do, whether earnable in game or through the crown store. I would say it has most of the utility to fit my needs. You have access to all mundus stones, a bank, a merchant, the armory, a transmute station, a scribing altar, all crafting stations, all crafted set stations, a way to increase/decrease vampire level, a way to restore resources, and a way to practice combat. However, it's still missing some essentials.

What I feel housing is missing is
    • Skill/Attribute Respec stations. Kind of surprising it hasn't been included yet. Makes build testing a pain since you have to constantly port to Grahtwood whenever you want to change something. They should still cost gold to respec too in my opinion, just so it's not removing a gold sink no matter how minor it is. No, I'm not saving a blank build in my armory to set all my skills again. That's an inefficient work around and doesn't address scribing skills.
    • A wayshrine. Too many good houses, even those bought from the crown store, are too far from a wayshrine to be worth buying or living in. You then have multiple houses going for <100k gold, one which is free, that are directly in front of a wayshrine. A wayshrine furnishing will make every house in the game a good place to live. Yes, I can just port to the location I want to go to, but then I have to sit through the long animation and pay a fee for it every time. And say that I go buy items from guild traders to make a build, port to my house, and then realize I forgot something. I now have to do the long animation again and pay a much higher price just to get back to the guild traders. A wayshrine furnishing would solve all those problems. I don't see how this would cause any problems, and it wouldn't be over powered by making wayshrines free since the Rimmen/Twin Arches method already exists.
    • Sell to guild store from banker assistants. It's self explanatory. Bankers are the primary method to sell on guild traders. Why can't my own banker do this? Don't say it's because they're a banker "assistant", and lack the experience to do so. That's not a real reason.
    • A PvP combat dummy. Give it 32k resistances, 2000-2500 crit resistance, and 35-40k hp. Reduce our damage done to it by 50% to account for battle spirit, and have it be considered a player if needed. Maybe have it regen 2500 HP/s too. It would help give a clearer representation of how effective a PvP build is. Maybe this can be a new reward? I'd easily spend 1 million AP or 100k telvar to buy something that does this.
    • Instance remembrance. In other words, a way for the game to remember our location in the house and placing us back in that spot upon exiting an instanced location like a leaving a dungeon/trial instance, battleground instance, or imperial city. It doesn't need to be saved when teleporting to a wayshrine in the overland. If it's not possible for some technical reason, at the very least have it remember that we were in our house and place us back in at the entrance inside the house like a normal teleport. I'm tired of having to sit through 2 loading screens upon finishing a BG just so I can continue doing things in my house.

In my opinion, that's all what housing needs to feel like a complete house. I really don't think it needs to have herb farming. There's no telling how overpower that idea could be. A well rested xp bonus sounds like an interesting idea, but I'm not sure if it would make any sense at all. The game time, as in time of day, is on the server instead of the client, so how would this idea work to make sense? The only way I can see it working is if you log off next to a bed within your own house for a specific amount of time, say 4-8 hours. But at that point, you're basically describing the enlightened bonus which achieves the same thing.

It would be nice if you could do more with housing (even its just in one defined house) than just being there as an end in itself..
But i dont know what...maybe we can collect some ideas, maybe that other games have...

One idea could be gardening to get alchemy ingredients or husbandry to get leather and meat..

Play tales of tribute or duel against the guests or...?

I just like to have more reasons to visit my house...

I want the relevance to be activity or event based rather than being able to farm resources etc of any kind. Maybe they can incorporate zone specific events into the house for that zone.

While I understand the appeal of having more things to do in homes, it comes at a cost in terms of the impact on visible player populations of time spent in private instances. That can be very off-putting to new players, and we've seen throughout this year the reports of players finding the world much emptier than it used to be. Giving players more reasons to spend time in private instances such as their homes would increase this trend, especially if the additional activities in homes were things that were currently done in the open world.

I've seen comments like that too, but they were about the decreasing number of interactable npcs and quests. Indeed, most npcs on Solstice don't even have idle dialogue and most doors on the whole island are locked, even in places that are supposed to be normally inhabitated (without any incident going on). Quest number has also severely decreased with only 13 overland-related (non-mainquest) quests in East Solstice, 4 of them extremely short (one literally took only seconds, I'm not even sure what purpose that was supposed to serve), another 4 are simple fetch quests. There's just lots of landscape but it feels lifeless. Even delves, while beautifully designed and big in terms of space, feel empty. Random players running around won't change that.

The lack of other players causes a different problem, of course - no one being around for world bosses and incursions, and soloing everything takes so long, it's just annoying. Though I don't think not giving people activities to do inside their homes will improve anything about that - either I'm in the mood for incursions or world bosses or not. If I'd like doing something with housing (which is a calmer, slower activity compared to combat) , I'm not. And the lack of housing activities won't make me farm world bosses instead. More likely I log off and do something else. It's just completely different activity types; there's no competition between them.

While I appreciate the love players have for housing, they have so much work to do in repairing the game itself outside of housing that I’d be pretty sad if they took development time to work on anything with housing.

Yeah, I get what you mean. I'd be really sad if they took any development time to work on anything you like, too. Because then the housing, which is in need of a great deal of improvement, might potentially suffer.

I still want to be able to remove grass. So annoying to have fronds sticking through furnishings, flooring and placed landscaping.

We can remove grass but we can't remove it just inisde our houses. If we turn grass off then it's off in our houses and out in the world too. And if others don't have it off then they will still see it in our houses sticking up through our furnishings.

They need to change grass inside houses from a game setting to a furnishing that only affects inside our houses.

The smol chest containers are kind of outdated by 10 years, I think they need to add more 60+ containers. Leaving a cap to the number is fine imo, but they need better slot counts.

If the call for more slots were genuinely intended for non furnishing item purposes, it would be getting discussed as a bank/inventory space issue.

Storage boxes are furnishings so it's also a furnishing/housing-related topic. @Orbital78 s post just stated there should be more of these storage boxes available.
