Will we ever be able to change our race?

Playing the way you want doesn't mean playing w/o consequences for the choices you make. If you choose to play against the racial trait-as I have on some of my characters, you need to figure out how to compensate. So, if you want a change, reroll a new character.

I hope this never happens. Race is part of the choices you make when you create your character. Choices have consequences (in this game and in life). Either deal with the consequences of your choice or make a new character.

Besides, as many people have pointed out the racial passives are not really a big deal. Many people chose to play races that weren't min/max optimal for their builds because they like that race: it isn't impacting their progress, and they aren't complaining about it in forums.

If I'm interpreting you correctly, you are saying you started your character with one build in mind and changed your mind later. Now that you've changed your mind about your build, some aspects of your character aren't 100% optimal for your new build. Most players in this situation would create a new character instead of complaining and expecting the world to change just for them.

Attention Zenimax: Stamina builds don't hold up to magicka builds, and this is causing most of your class imbalance. It makes melee weapons and bows weaker than staves and class abilities. It makes medium and heavy armor less desirable than light armor. Fix this imbalance, and you'll address most of your balance issues.

I thank you and the few others who responded as an actual human being and not a pimple faced teenager. I guess it does show just how important that extra boost being an Altmer Sorc as opposed to Khajit Sorc means to me if I am not willing to spend 1.5 months of my time re-leveling. I will concede my agenda and back away from this topic even though it does surprise me how one sided the negative responses were considering it does not affect anyone who wishes not to use it and only helps zenimax with funds for future content.

    1) Your gameplay skill has the greatest impact on performance. Racial skills don't make or break your character and they shouldn't.

    2) "Unfortunately for my Khajit Sorceror, melee is not really an option." Battlemages are very common and highly effective.

    3) If you are the min/max type, get used to re rolling chars every patch that has skill tweaks.

    4) "I want to PAY Zenimax to change my race. It doesn't involve you at all." Please submit a support ticket. Posting here involves us.

Race has SO LITTLE to say in character development. I am an Imperial Nightblade - but I use mainly bow so my imperial bonuses are nearly useless compared to the milk drinkers. Who cares? In Endgame terms racial bonuses are like a miniscule difference, and shouldnt matter at all to your playing style.

Also - we're so early in the game and I'm sure a lot of skills will be balanced out. Don't fret it right now. Be a cat and be proud :)

ZOS never said every odd-ball build was VIABLE, they simply said you could PLAY one.

It was patently clear at character creation, let alone from other sources of info that the Cat's racial bonus had little to do with a Sorcerer.. That said the bonuses are minor and if you're having trouble playing the problem doesn't lie with the character's race.

I've been trying to make melee work and still am trying from time to time. I didn't really care about max dps going through 1-50 content so I was still rolling my melee sorc (crit surge does work nicely with it.... just not enough DPS for trials).

I understand but the dps will not be so much different with other races. A little yes, but not gamechanging.

I have the fire bonus and fire resistance on my dunmer Mage. They get portrayed as great mages but there really aren't any great fire spells as well.

The race benefits are minor if you ask me.

Regarding the option to change race during gameplay. I wouldn't wait for it if I were you. That wasn't even an option in the single player games.

I advise you to take some more time choosing your options when you start out a new character

It was a learning process (apparently a slow one.)

I say give him the potion...one that makes his Khajiit think it's an Altmer, or a mudcrab, or perhaps a daffodil...

I have a Khajiit sorcerer... I did not roll him to be the perfect combo...I rolled him because I wanted a Khajiit sorcerer... and he does just fine...

Your character does not have to be ideal... It does not mean your character cannot be viable... If anything, it adds challenge because you have to compensate for bonuses you do not posess.

If he made it to VR2, apparently something was working right...

All OP is asking for is a completely different character...

Hey Zeni .... why don't you sell a Race Change potion or something? I would gladly buy it, as well as many other people. More money for you = good thing for game.

I hope not! That would be chaos! Not as bad as a Shield bash to the face, but It's something!

How do you think it would be planned anyway? What would happen to your racial perks, Style Crafting and game? It would get messed up!

Because this will encourage lack of planning and sloppy gaming. Because games are not just for fun, but also bring some value into real life, and sloppiness is not a thing to learn. BTW some special forces prohibit their agents to play games with resurrections/respawns, because that reduces their sharpness in the field. Life is about making choices and sticking to them. When one abandons everything one starts, one gets nowhere.

I want to change my race as well. Not because I don't like the racials, but because I don't like how the race looks. I made an Argonian Nightblade, and I'm getting sick of how the character looks. The tail just clips through the armor - it isn't handled in any special way at all. All the face-covering helms are just warped and look comically poor. All around lazy implementation of a race, in my honest opinion.

It basically comes down to two options, since I'm not willing to spend the time (and pay for the time) to reroll and repeat content:
    1. I pay money to change race, and I continue to pay for the subscription.
    2. I can't change my race, and I no longer pay for the subscription.

One of these is better than the other for you, Zenimax.

Please don't make an race change possible!

If you are underpowered change something. You have so many things you can change and you want to change one of the few unchangable things?
Orc Sorcerer isn't best way to, but i can live with him, so i don't realy care that my racial skills arn't the best for my playstyle.

How would it affect you at all that I can change my race? Why would you protest this?

The reason I picked khajit (6% melee crit) is completely useless to me because melee is gimped. I want to change my race.

Individual changes don't affect other people, however having the facility to do it can/does impact the overall game long term. It allows people to change things on the fly as balancing changes occur, which hurts the balancing process.

I am not sure why you feel the need to shoot down someone who was making a request, yet you seem intent on personal attacks like "maybe you are just terrible" to make yourselves feel better. About what exactly?

This guy wanted to make a melee character, yet compared to optimal ranged characters late game, there is no comparing the two, ranged is better. Everybody knows this, there are countless other topics on the forums about this. Yet you ignore that and move onto over-zealous name calling.

May I ask why? I see no negatives to anyone who would not use it and only positives from more money for your MMO's developer.

Because this will encourage lack of planning and sloppy gaming. Because games are not just for fun, but also bring some value into real life, and sloppiness is not a thing to learn. Zenimax will implement race changes when the game goes free to play. It's obvious everything was designed to be able to easily transition to a f2p model.

Race changes are so benign, I can't imagine why everyone is so against them. The last decade of MMO development has proven that quality of life functions like name changes and race changes make far more people happy then they do upset. Few or none of you will leave if they implement race changes, but many would stay/return if they did.

Thank you. I was very confused at the vitriol coming from people as well. I understand that race changes are extremely rare in MMOs, but I also think racial passives are extremely important in this game. 9% magicka recovery, 12% max magicka, and 4% extra damage is really huge compared to the big fat ZERO my khajit is getting. Unfortunately for me, all my pre-release planning to make a crit surge focused melee sorceror was misguided.

melee is not underpowered my lvl 48 sorc uses a 2 handed sword and owns.

Owns what? Unfortunately, this game is going to have something called Trials which are timed instances that reward the quickest clears and therefore maximizing DPS is required and it is generally accepted that class abilities > weapon abilities and the staves are the only weapons that synergize well with class skills.
