Why am I waiting over an hour to get a normal dungeon on my healer?

Hi forum friends,
This is NOT a 'bash eso' post. I love this game, im still here as a subscriber for over 10 yrs. Just wondering why its so hard to get a specific normal dungeon. It's quicker if i choose random normal but sometimes i need a specific dungeon for a lead im working on.

Odds are that the dungeon finder is trying to find a tank for the group. Because people hate playing tanks there's not a lot of them. That is why random is faster than specific. I recommend making a tank if you're going to farm dungeons (or just slot a taunt and have decent heals and survivability if it's just normal dungeons)

There is also a long-standing issue where tank (I know firsthand) and healer (I've heard) can have problems getting queues to pop.

I have frequently been in a group of two where I am a tank and my partner is a dps, with our roles properly marked. We'll often wait 10+ minutes if I queue as lead, but when I pass my partner crown and she queues, the queue pops nearly instantaneously. I don't know what kind of issue this is, but it happens more often than not.

Yeah the dungeon finder is just busted. Even more busted when you're already in a dungeon and need a replacement teammate, I find it highly unlikely that there's not a single dps waiting in random queue and yet we still didn't get a replacement dps until the last boss.

Sometimes you have to un queue and re queue. ZOS noted awareness of some of the queue bugs but then never followed-up…

Main reason why not liking a tank is that if you're queuing as a full tank and the DPS is so underwhelmingly bad even fungal grotto 1 takes forever. I had a run recently where my full tank (with only trample and blockade as damage) did 30% group damage. Each DD really needs to consider their build at least SOMEWHAT.

Yeah I agree, I love tanking but I don't bother doing a full tank build for normal dungeons. I just slot a taunt on my main dps and do that instead.

I’ll tell you the real truth nobody likes, but everyone knows.

"Why am I waiting over an hour to get a normal dungeon on my healer?"
Because we don’t need tanks, healers, or DPS in normal dungeons anymore. Only beam!
So everyone fakes their role for a fast queue, because ESO has lost all sense.

    Do this:
    1. Add beam to your character.
    2. Queue as Tank. If you don’t get a pop in 2 seconds, switch to Healer.
    3. If you don’t get a pop in 2 seconds, switch to DPS, then repeat the cycle.
Believe me, you’ll get into the dungeon — and you won’t need anyone. Just your beam.
    Easy.

Otherwise, all you need to do is wait 3 or maybe 4 years… or more... or less.
Not even the developers know the timeline to fix the game, as they told us yesterday.

    That ^^

If after 5 minutes you haven't got in, leave the queue and re-join.

    Because the game is dying

    XBOX 2015-2019
    PC-NA 2019-2022, 2025-present

ESO still needs a better combat dev team. They're bad at their jobs.

Usually shortage of tank, or sometimes even DD.
But if no groups after 5-10min I would reQ because the match making can get confused.
I have had dungeon finder think very hard to get us in the game in a group of 4 lol.

You also have to take into account that subclassig homogenized the meta builds. Meaning far fewer meta builds, thus fewer sets being farmed. Resultiing in fewer dungeons being farmed for their gear. So the pool of dungeons seeing less activity is growing, and thus more dungeoms with longer queue times.

[edit] To be clear, I'm not advocating for or against meta builds.

I find spamming queue a few times helps, but odds are that no one wants to tank that dungeon. There are plenty of healers out there, heck my heavy sorc w/ heal pet can heal all normal and most vet dungeons. There could also just be less people doing dungeons as of late, I know I haven't done a dungeon in nearly a month now maybe.

I really like this game! Im just disappointed in it currently!

Right now there is so much going on in ESO that I honestly don’t know where the game even goes from here. With all the recent changes — base class nerfs, multiclassing, spell crafting, and these insanely powerful items that completely overshadow everything else — the power creep has accelerated to a point where the entire game feels out of balance.

PvE is basically broken. The only real difficulty left is in hard-mode content where you have to memorize specific puzzle mechanics. Outside of that, nothing feels challenging. Dungeons offer me nothing anymore.

PvP was always the endgame for me. That’s where the dynamic gameplay lived. Fighting actual players made the game feel alive. But now? Between the power creep, broken systems, and the lack of meaningful direction, PvP is a shadow of what it used to be.

ESO used to feel like an MMORPG with depth, progression, and long-term goals. Now it feels like they’re throwing systems and gimmicks at the wall just to keep people busy — not to create meaningful content.

I’m not sure what direction the game is supposed to be heading in anymore, but it definitely feels like we’ve drifted far from what made ESO great. I can certainly understand your issues and I feel the OP pain.
