8000 for the first day of the month?

Is this a mistake?

I probably should have asked before claiming them - but I didn't spend them just in case.

No mistake, the seals are compensation for how badly the writhing wall event went (a lot of bugs made in impossible to complete in many cases).

Feel free to spend them (if you wish to).

All explained in more detail here:

no mistake, it was promised by the new boss as recompense for the initial unplayability of the writhing wall event. very nice gesture. :)

For whom it may concern, I believe new crates are coming out in a few days (it looked like the current crates are on a "going away soon" timer but I didn't look closely), so might wanna check out what's in the next crates too before spending those seals!

That’s not a mistake. That’s simply the outcome: players who didn’t face the Solstice event issues ended up getting the same reward as those of us who dealt with all the bugs with the Season Pass.
ZOS is offering a free reward to everyone, even to players who didn’t experience any problems, while those of us who spent money and time dealing with constant bugs and stress receive the exact same thing.
So then… who’s the best friend here?
    Who’s who?

Oh, I was active since day one with the WW event, even went in to the Fortress to do my part. Can't say I personally encountered major issues... maybe I was lucky. The only issue I had was with the final Mannimarco fight - but I'm not sure that counts as an event issue.

Bear in mind that a lot of players - myself included - will have paid for the Content Pass but not bothered with the Event because of all the negative coverage of it.

Given the complaints about the lack of value for ESOPlus subscribers, there are probably more than a few of us who didn't buy the Season Pass in protest, and would've been even more unimpressed by the boring, grindy, over-hyped event with rubbish loot. ZOS probably don't want to lose our subscription fees. Then there's the players who missed out on the Golden Pursuit mount because of the confusion over when the event was ending. An apex mount as compensation seems fair.

Of course the biggest losers here are the French-speaking players who paid for an expansion in their language and didn't get what was advertised. They deserve a refund, not 8,000 seals...

It's a tradition, or an old charter, or something...

True... I have ESO+ and bought the Season Pass.

Interesting train of thought. I bought the Season Pass, and dropped the ESOPlus.

I don't mind everyone getting something for free, but I, too, would have wished for something special for compensation for the people who paid extra money to buy the new content.

It's not only the event that was bugged, after all, but East Solstice is generally horribly bugged as well - I know lots of people who don't play it yet, because they don't want to get stuck in quests (including several situations in the main quest, where such bugs occur), or because collecting skyshards in East Solstice is just not possible for some characters right now and they don't want to run to all locations a second time when it is fixed some day. We paid real money for this content, and not just a little, some us of already last spring - now it's December and although the content was officially already released, it's basically not playable in a sufficient way.

The people who funded this year’s “content” also essentially paid for the 8k seal gift to the player base who didn’t.

We got shafted twice in my opinion.

For those saying that it’s not fair that people who struggled with the content are getting the same reward as people who didn’t play at all, what exactly would be the solution for that? ESO has hundreds of thousands of players across all servers and platforms. Tracking all of their activity to know who played Writhing Wall and who didn’t would require resources that needed to be in place long before the event started.

Besides, this isn’t just a reward or compensation. It’s intended as a gesture of good will toward the entire playerbase. It’s their way of saying “we messed up, and we want everyone to know that we’re sorry”.

I have absolutely no problem with players who didn't experience the buggy mess receiving compensation. One group doesn't lose because the other is also winning, this isn't a zero-sum game. Besides, seals of endeavors are used to buy stuff that costs money: if everyone gets 8000 seals, ZOS loses more than if only a few got them.

Most of all it's advertisement for the store, to get people to look into it who usually don't.

I suspect ZOS didn't want to try to work out all the different situations that have been mentioned in this thread, and all the variations of those (like people who own the pass but skipped the event because they were waiting for the bugs to be fixed vs people who skipped it in protest etc).

I suspect just trying to identify which accounts fall into which groups and assign appropriate rewards for each would be a lot of work and then there would always be people angry that they got it wrong or they were excluded for whatever reason. This way it's far less work and the worst that happens is some people are disappointed someone else got the same as they did.

Kind of like how I suspect the 1 account = 1 player rule most MMOs have isn't so much to push sales as so they never have to try to work out if it was actually yours brother's friend's cousin's guinea pig who typed all that stuff in chat, they can just ban the account that did it and if you really did let someone else use it that's also a valid reason to ban it.

For those of us who didn't participate in the event or purchase the chapter, I still see the 8K seals as an apology to us too. "Sorry for making the game so un-fun that you didn't even want to try it"

    Thanks for the seals!
