How can I move my storage chest from one house to another?

My first house is Mara's Kiss, I placed my fortified storage chest in the room and it works fine. Now I have also bought the Snugpod in Grahtwood. I placed another chest in there but it is inert, for some reason I can't open it. Am I doing something wrong? I have ESO+ BTW.

Just in case, and if you already know this then disregard, but because quite a lot of things in this game are taken for granted, I will mention that you should make sure there is a green "glow" or "aura" around the chest when you place it.

Many interactables, like training dummies, crafting stations, storage chests, chairs, will have a yellow glow around them until placed correctly on the ground, floor, or other surface, when the glow changes to green. The green glow disappears after placed and set. When placed with green glow the item (usually) works.

So make sure the glow around the chest is green when you place it. Some other conditions also apply for various things like crafting stations - after dealing with housing for almost 9 years one doesn't even think about them.

If you already know this then no idea what it might be.

Just to add to the previous comment, check to see whether you have the "surface drag" option toggled on or off when placing an interactable furnishing such as a storage container. I think some players like to turn "surface drag" off so they can partially embed objects in the floor, but doing that with an interactable furnishing will interfere with being able to interact with it.

Note that if the furnishing is not partially embedded in the floor, but is otherwise clipping another furnishing or structure, that will also interfere with being [able] to interact with it.

On the other hand, turning off "surface drag" and placing a furnishing up in the air (that is, floating) should not interfere with your ability to interact with it, as long as it has that green aura mentioned in the previous comment.

It turns out that I hadn't placed the chest correctly, thank you for pointing out that it needs to show a green aura and not a yellow one. I switched on 'surface drag' and that let me place it correctly, and it works now.
Thank you all for your help!

You should be able to place instances of your initial 30 slot storage chest in every one of your owned homes, regardless of home size, ESO+ or not. There is a catch though - the inn rooms are limited to one chest each.

Was the chest you placed in Snugpod the same chest as the one used in Mara's Kiss, a different storage chest purchased from the Master Writ contact, or one you crafted? (Crafted chests are only decorative as far as I understand).

There's also an option (at least on console) to hit a toggle (LS down on XBox) which will snap the object to the nearest surface to it - either the floor or, for vertical objects, the wall.

Thanks again, as I said above it turns out that I hadn't placed the chest properly. I wasn't aware of the green/yellow aura distinction, and once I turned on surface drag I could place it corectly and it works now. Thanks a lot for your help!
