It's free, too, so you can immediately switch it back if you want, without it costing anything. I do that every time the endeavor comes up.

I don't think either of those things is true.
Change your outfit refers to use of the outfit station, and hide your helm is not part of that. Hide your shoulders would work though I suppose.
And antiquities can still be damaged after you've uncovered them.
...when digging for antiquities, after you've completed the antiquity itself, you can connect up the fissures (smoking squares) that usually damage the antiquity and blow up a whole bunch of squares at once with no damage. It's the easiest way to find most of the bonus items.

I've never been able to do this. A friend tried to guide me through it once but it just didn't work for me. And I can watch videos about it but still can't get it to work. I don't know what I'm missing.
