Are the Writhing Wall quests the ONLY way to progress the wall falling?

Are the Writhing Wall quests the ONLY way to progress the wall falling? Do running the siege camps give progress even if we don't have the quest?

We have only gained .3 the past 2 hours and the siege camps are being defended constantly. This does not seem right.

That doesn't make sense to me. Defending a siege camp even without a quest is still defending a siege camp.

This along with the legendarily bad anniversary grind are taking a toll on my desire to purchase any more content in the future.

Siege camp only adding to it would bork the progression and story. Why bother doing the other quests?

So now the Stirk Fellowship have to battle the Worm Cult and Daedra with no equipment and supplies?

Without spoilers, I wouldn't worry about the stirk.

A lot of players are gathering Vitrified Souls for that quest by defending the siege camps even after they completed the siege camp quests, so they are still contributing.
