New Leaderboard penalizes players

The new leaderboard system penalizes players who took time to do content on several different characters to earn weekly rewards.

Fine - record the best score, but you should award dedication. Many people used the leaderboard system to get stickerbook sets from arenas and trials. Now the leaderboard is even more useless.

yeah.. I recently came back to the game, I did vMA on multiple characters only to get one reward in the mail. Sucks so bad :/ I have old malestrom weps when perfected didn't drop, so I've been trying to farm for perfected now. :(

I am OK with this. Having a 1,000 people on ten alts hogging the top 100 feels demoralizing to me.

I understand the idea that they don’t want one person to monopolize the leaderboards, but there’s a part of this that again feels like ESO’s official stance is “you should only have one character.” Surely there are ways to keep dedicated players around without blatantly saying that trying to redo achievements or score runs on alternate characters are a waste of time.

It does make sense to remove Class-based leaderboards though considering they essentially removed Classes from the game… unless you want to wear a facemask, that’s when Class is important.

It does but why should one person tie up the board? I know others have had these kinds of discussions on here from before, but I too think this is a good move though a painful one but still something that needs to be fixed.

It's tacky for one person to have what... up to 20 slots? C'mon. No that's not right. Make room for someone else whose earned it too. This game needs to get away from being so top heavy. This is the good side of competition, its healthy. Not like the event at all.

I don't think it's a good idea for the game to be rewarding the same people over, and over, and over, and over again in terms of encouraging other players to bother. It makes it look like a game built to pander to a small clique and that is a really bad idea if you want to encourage participation in the features of an MMO.

I‘m penalized for playing non Arc Nightblade even more now.
Yes, classes aren‘t the same anymore since subclassing. But one leaderboard for all is too much.

Giving participation trophies rather than rewarding merit is insulting. If you didn't like one person being at the top (who probably took many hours to learn and practise an arena), you can also practise for hours to join the first place spot.

What's unfair and not right is not acknowledging someone's effort and dedication. Moreover, doing an arena several times at least gave you some nice loot at the end of the leaderboard week. Now it's pointless to run more than once.

Many people had fun placing their characters in the leaderboard and competing against each other. It was a form of rivalry but as usual mediocrity voice won.

    Update to Leaderboards
Going forward, leaderboards are now Account based (except Cyrodiil boards for now). This means you will only have 1 entry per leaderboard, and it will be the highest score for the associated activity. Class specific leaderboards have also been removed. We are taking a look at leaderboards to better streamline the experience overall. The goal is to make leaderboards make a little more sense in a post-subclassing world and to have a more unified and fair experience for players.
With this change, the number of people per leaderboard can be adjusted based on feedback. So please make sure to provide any thoughts on this.

Everyone starts from mediocrity. You started from mediocrity. I started from mediocrity. ZOS job here is to give people a chance and that's what they're trying to do. You guys are used to being comfortable competing against each other but that's the whole damn problem. And not just on l/bs but PvP too.

Somewhere along the lines we gotta make room for others. Yeah, its painful but it's painful because it needs to be done.

They removed character class rankings because it no longer made sense with subclassing.
I think this is a good thing.

Regarding the account-based leaderboard, well, I think it's going to slow down players' ability to use multiple characters.

I feel like Zos got stuck at some point with the ever-increasing number of character slots, and to limit this, they came up with various strategies, the effectiveness of which is questionable, but at least that's how I see it.

I think that it's good the leaderboard only shows the top score for your account. But they should record the number of otherwise qualifying runs and send you mail based on the successive number of clears. They could even add it in a bonus line on the leaderboard itself.

    It could be like

    1. Example McExample Guy - Top Score 9001 points (run 5 of 7).

Example McExample being the name of your character with your best score.

The score being your best score, in this case it's over 9000!!!

The number 5 tells us which run was your best one.

The number 7 tells us how many total leaderboard qualifying runs you succeeded in doing. The 7 would also be your prize multiplier.

So Example McExample could expect to receive 7 mails at the end.

I feel like a system like this would encourage more participation instead of allowing only a handful of people to claim all of the rewards. While also still rewarding players who are talented enough they could secure multiple spots without the restriction. It's also more alt friendly.
