Writhing Wall is still loads better than Anniversary Jubilee 2024

I got souvenirs from that acid trip of an event.

EDIT: People are misunderstanding the post. I'm not saying Writhing Wall is good. I'm just saying there's worse.

I couldn't disagree more: the planemeld between the PC-NA server and the PTS was a legendary event.
I'll be laughing at this for years after the current event has been forgotten. :D

I am not finding it better, just the opposite in fact. The Anniversary Jubilee event was a free event, we had to pay for the WW event.

Yes but it is once in a lifetime so at least it will only occur once.

Nah, they both had boring and repetitive grinds. But anniversary made it even worse by making everything bound to you. Not to mention that a bunch of people were completely locked out of it. This one's worse offense was just being overhyped and dull.

I'm one of the ones who got locked out.

No, I don't. I've lost out in potentially hundreds of millions in gold value from missed Jubilee boxes. I had to go through four customer support agents before the fifth one finally granted me what I missed in tickets and event items. That was a garbage experience.

I'd have rather a flood than a drought of rewards.

That being said, the whole year of anniversary events were plagued by major issues. But rewards really wasn't one of them, aside from the whole Staff of Worms debacle. I still can't believe they didn't hotfix that.

I mean... sure, I guess. The 2024 Anniversary Jubilee Event made me snap like a twig and froth at the mouth. I did dolmens for 30 hours to earn that Staff of Worms. 30 hours.

Other dudes in my guild got it on their 4th or 5th dolmen. "I wonder what you're doing wrong, Ingel. Must be a skill thing."

IT WAS A RANDOM NUMBER GENERATOR THING, YOU... hm. Grr... :-/

I did geysers for 20 hours after that until I gave up. You craft an endgame of fashion scrolls, give the new 10 year anniversary event cosmetics a 1/1000 chance of dropping, provide no mercy mechanic for a light at the end of the tunnel, AND FOMO ON TOP OF ALL OF THAT. I still get angry just remembering it. I decided that if the next holiday event followed the same route, I would just quit and do something else.

It didn't, so I'm still here... but I greet each piece of launcher news with skepticism and slight derision. That awful event passed through how many internal committees? How many peer reviews? How many higher-ups? Oi vei. If that got through, what else will? When your event leaves people envying the PTS folk, who had the privilege of being locked out of the game for 11 days and getting all the items with no hassle or fuss, you've done something very very wrong. To this day, I can't bring myself to use any of the cosmetic appearances. Just seeing them makes me despise this game anew and want to turn it off.

Didn't help either that messaging for this game at the time was literally: "we'll be adding more things to keep you busy between content drops." Notice that FUN was never mentioned, because the goal wasn't fun. It was keeping us busy and keeping engagement numbers up. "Look, this player spent 50 hours doing this event! That's strong engagement. Whoo! He saw advertisements for $120 player homes about 10 times a day. You know, since every log-in presents you with a Crown-shop advertisement pop-in. Yahoo! It's like free marketing on top of the engagement."

But yeah, TLDR... you're right. This event has not left me ill tempered or aggrieved. I log in, do the four dailies, and then ignore it completely. Takes 15 to 20 minutes per day. It is much better than 2024 Anniversary Jubilee. Watching paint dry is better than 2024 Anniversary Jubilee.

    What a low bar, though.

Edit addition: I do want to mention... the Writhing Wall event, when it first released, had drop rates for fetch quests that made me think back to 2005 World of Warcraft quest design. It left me wondering if the team that designed this event knew anything about the history of the genre and why certain practices were dropped. If the staff knew about the infamous Zhevra hooves, raptor heads, and lion teeth of The Barrens. Killing ten trolls to get 1 fat... out of 8 needed. Great. 15 other players in the same area, rushing like locusts to each troll, killing said troll in 2 seconds before rushing to the next. Ten minutes. It took ten minutes to get the fat. Ten minutes.

That got through. That got greenlit. That made it to release. What is going on here? Why are we going backwards in the genre?

I still throw up a little at the very notion of having to shut down a geyser. But at least the activities in the great dumpster fire that was Jubilee 2024 had a clear an identifiable reward attached to them. With the WW event, we're completing absurdly repetitive tasks to unlock vague content that we've paid for.

And imagine how frustrating it was for those of us who pretty well eschewed the entire anniversary event specifically to focus on grinding those pages, and then as soon as I finally dropped the last one from my last week of geysers and can finally start actually doing the event, I get temp banned.

I still have all five pages sitting on one character because they gave them to me, and I didn’t need them… nor could I give them away. Just destroying them outright just feels wrong, but what else can I do with them?

I like to link them in zone chat during some event and ask if anybody wants them for free.

Worse grind than the Anniversary, I have stopped collecting the Withering souls just because of overcrowded players in the area`s that spawn alot or where there is not alot of players and you have to wait and wait and wait. Then the RNG will keep you from getting the soul therefor in my opinion this is worse than the Anniversary.

While I would not say that this event is loads better, I will say that I cannot imagine anything ever being worse than that anniversary event, and I’ve at least had a little fun in this event except for the general problems that everyone is discussing like poor rewards and wildly fluctuating drop rates for the gather quests. They still have a chance to make this event somewhat better, while the anniversary event was a huge dumpster fire that is still smoldering for a lot of people.
