Looks like they need to turn off the ability to create new accounts for a while. Either that, or make people go through manual approval. I used to be a mod on a forum with around 15K active members, and we had manual approvals for every new account that included the user having to do several things to prove they weren't a bot, understood and had read the rules, etc.

Thanks, all. Please report these if you see any more. Unfortunately, these are not new accounts and we've seen two do the same thing in the last day. We're investigating.

Likely an old defunct account who's owner likely reused a weak password and left it vulnerable.

That account had been compromised. It was registered years ago and had normal posts until 2021, then wasn't active anymore.

And about 12 hours ago there was exactly the same case with another account that had regular postings until 2023.

This is a good reminder to check your passwords and update them (especially if you have the same pw on multiple websites), because you can never know if the same thing can happen to you.

To be fair, it was 5 hours the first time and about half an hour the second time.

I'm more concerned about the question whether there was some kind of data breach affecting this forum.

Seriously doubt that to be the case. Gaming companies are notoriously quick to announcing when that happens (despite what some would like to think). And in the off chance it was, it would be a collosal waste to take advantage of it by simply spamming click bait links on the forums in a language other than the demographic frequenting it. (At least, I think it was a language other than English. I could be remembering incorrectly)
