I would even go further: a companion who can answer all kinds of questions about the game, lore, quests, and everything related to Tamriel. A companion who can have a real conversation with me and doesn't just spout the same boring comments over and over again. That would be awesome. :) That would be the best thing ever. <3 It would also be fantastic for a single-player game. Please give Bastian and co AI! The possibilities are endless. Anyone who doesn't like this kind of thing really has zero imagination. Just imagine how this would improve your game immersion!
AI is the future. You can hate it or love it but you will have to accept it. Burying your head in the sand and pretending it doesn't exist won't change anything.
I'm looking forward to computer games in the not-too-distant future where this kind of thing becomes a reality. :)

There’s an alarming amount of real life people CHEATING on their real life spouse with AI (let alone all the people who don’t have a human spouse but instead are solely with an AI). As humans, we’ve already shown we can’t handle human-imitating chat AI. Let alone VA rights, there’s the whole thing about voice actors just being paid for training data and then getting replaced by an AI.

Sweet christ, as someone who works in IT, that is an absolute hard NO from me.

    It’s absolutely unnecessary.

AI is the future. You can hate it or love it but you will have to accept it. Burying your head in the sand and pretending it doesn't exist won't change anything.

I disagree. At the moment it’s being shoved into everything whether it needs it or not, and everyday more research comes out to shows the risks & issues with it, both economically, socially, environmentally and for our brain health.

    Please no.

I am still hoping for a universal "ignore any AI tool integration pop-ups" button I can push that hides all that nonsense from the Apps I use.

The game is already filled with actual people to interact with and talk to.

    No AI voice.

Let’s not steal the jobs and dreams of actors. Many of them don’t do it for money, they do it because they love their job. They love to play and explore different characters. It’s like roleplaying for them and they have a right to live their dreams and make a living out of it. Let’s not take that away from them.

I'd like to see AI incorporated into companions so they could learn the quirks of our character, act accordingly, get smarter at the game based on what they see traveling with you. Even learn the voice of their actor so they could create new dialogue and even use your character's name in dialogue. The voice bit would probably require some copyright considerations to the voice actor but, going forward, perhaps new companions could use wholly AI created voices and move beyond voice actors.

Move beyond voice actors? You really think AI is better than actual human voices? Thats a real quick absolutely should never happen. Pay people to do their jobs, dont take it away from them entirely.

Theres no replacing vo8ce actors if you want actually good content and not endless inbred regurgitation,

But, machine learning for personalized character experiences would be cool. That's the kind of thing it shoube used for, stuff that would be impossibly complicated to pre record.

The first one could be that chatterbox skull guy from the psijic quest.

Oh, Oh I know! Why not have an AI """companion""" that completes quests for you too? Or does the combat so you don't even have to learn how the game works? While we're at it, why not have it make a character for you so you don't have to role play in this role-playing game??

Seriously, do people even hear themselves? Generative AI in games is bad, and there's a whole host of ethical and legal issues that come with it. Why you'd want to bring soulless bots to a game where people are doing creative rp, having fun beating difficult fights, and socializing with other real people is beyond me.

Better use AI to make shadow fight mode, in which you will fight ur own character on small map with random objects. And It should learn how you act and develop itself. Would be interesting

I would prefer to see the companions combat AI improved so there are less "stand in stupid" moments.

When I put down an AOE and npcs will roll sideways out of it, but companions can't or won't go sideways.

Companions that can "see" the boss combat zone and not leave it, dragging the boss with them and forcing the boss to reset.

A way to tell companions (without me having to give the command manually) to save their ultimate for bigger enemies or clusters of enemies and not waste it on 1 enemy that is almost dead anyway.

I think things like this would be a better use of AI than a chat bot.

It has been a hot topic for some time that AI is used and is being developed to fight against loneliness.

If you ask me, that is a good thing. I would actually be willing to have a house hold human like robot around that would keep me company, watch over my vitals, offer assistance in various tasks and so on. I haven't had luck in relationships with humans and because my life resides mostly in virtual reality, AI robot "mate" would most likely fit for me best. But that is a thing in the coming future perhaps..

But what you are suggesting might be a little too much or unrelated to implement in a game like ESO. Then again, isn't there a solution like this already outside ESO that you can use? You can already have a chat with amazons alexa and other such services. I think many people already talk with these chatbots about weather, politics and whatever the topic is. I have talked with AI like chatgpt about ESO, universe, life, music, history etc. and had very good conversations. I think there is no need to implement such a thing to ESO because you can already have it from outside the game.

AI still likes to make up information, Minecraft’s new helper AI is notoriously bad at its job, and “AI psychosis” is on the rise. Let alone other things like public feelings about AI.

So, no. We need less AI, not more.

iT also isn't good at distinguishing things.

I am playing another game that has unique rewards that you can use as decoration. I am new and didn't know whether these rewards were unique (as I don't think they say so) and asked 'Game name, can you get item more than once' or something similiar and AI said 'Yes, you can go to the furniture store and use renown to buy extra copies of this decor'.

Went to the furniture store (all that I could find), it wasn't there. Looked at AI again, went and looked at its source for that claim.

It was a suggestion someone made on reddit to allow those types of decorations to be bought in game so you CAN get more than one, and/or replace ones you deleted without realizing they were unique etc...

That was it. No other sources for 'yes we can get it' no other suggestions, just that one single reddit post.

The sad thing? There were multiple posts talking about how they wished that you could get extras (not mentioning buying it) or how it sucked you couldn't get extra copies, or how people had deleted the items not realizing they were unique and couldn't be obtained more than once (since most things in this game aren't limited like that).

So, yeah, AI isn't the best when it comes to finding information, especially when it will take one thing and integrate it into its 'information' without being able to realize 'hey, this isn't saying they ARE available, but that they WISH they were available!'

    Strong response for NO!!!

However, consider that there is no going back, AI is here, it is real and it is into everything. The reality is that AI will eventually impact all new or evolving games in some manner. Artwork, animations, story, voice, and even coding of the actual game are all happening now. The fact that real people are replaced is bad for the artists, but great for the franchise's profit margin (and more profit will always win).

As for an AI chatbot: an AI can be forced to avoid discussing any topic its designer tells it to ignore, so romance could be off-limits. My idea would be mostly like a talking ESO lore library.

    Thanks for all the comments.

Others might have said this, but where would it be pulling its 'lore library' from? Would it only pull from Official sources? Because if it pulls from any sources about TES lore, then it runs the same issues I had with the game I mentioned in my previous post: it will pull from fan theories and information that is outdated, and potentially give wrong or conflicting information depending on what is asked.

If it pulls from official sources, then it doesn't really even need to be AI, it just needs to look for keywords and regurgitate the 'official lore'. (basically an ingame google search for the Elder Scrolls lore library specifically)

    AI is:
    1. extremely overrated
    2. not actually AI but LLM

these chatbots have no actual intelligence whatsoever and basically just pull upon a vast database of information that its been populated (trained) on

i dont think we will have true AI for another like 20 years at least, and i definitely dont think some dumbed down energy wasting AI would have any place in the game
    plays PC/NA
    handle @Necrotech_Master
    active player since april 2014

i have my main house (grand topal hideaway) listed in the housing tours, it has multiple target dummies, scribing altar, and grandmaster stations (in progress being filled out), as well as almost every antiquity furnishing on display to preview them

feel free to stop by and use the facilities
