What's up with the outfit design? Pauldrons, tassets, and faulds keep being thrown on everything

Same complaint. Whenever I put together a new outfit, I have to discard half of the good-looking styles because they feature gigantonormous metal plates at the hips that float for some reason*, sharp metal plates at the hips that cut my character's wrists when standing around, or both at the same time attached to a light cloth shirt for whatever reason.

    * I'm not even bothered too much by the floating if it's not too excessive. But if you know you won't be able to do them properly, why have them in the first place?

I really, really do not understand the design idea behind these things. If you're creating an outfit that has a lightweight chest piece - shirt, robe, even fantasy leather or something like that - then hanging random pieces of metal from your hips does eff all to protect you. It makes no sense. And more importantly, it directly contradicts the style you were going for with that piece in the first place. Who does stuff like that?!?

And I kind of understand why going back to edit all the existing pieces so the stupid parts can be hidden. But for some reason, they insist on adding these ... things to new styles as well.

Someone at ZOS' art department (or higher up) must have a worrisome fetish for these things.

My female Khajiit has small breasts. Some of the costumes make them swell to twice their size. I hate that. If she were supposed to have big breasts, I would have given her some from the start.

    This.

ZOS, why most chest pieces double breast's size, but buttocks always seem flat no matter what pants I use? That makes no sense.

New crown crates, and the same issue spotted. Who thought it's a good idea to add disconnected, floating pauldrons on the shoulders, as well as tassets / hip armour on a dress?

I HATE the flaps - have always hated the flaps - and if you look at the Anchorwright Raiment costume - the back has a teeny dumb BUMCRACK FLAP! I'll post an image after maint.

Yeah, I love this dress and would totally have gone for it, were it not for the tassets. I can maybe forgive the pauldrons, but those tassets are a crime.

The spider limbs coming from behind her back, on the other hand, rock something awesome.

We have been asking to stop putting these hip flaps on everything for 11 years now, yet they still continue. There is no way that cloth and leather armor ever had metal players on the hips, and it is so out of place to see them here.

PLEASE stop putting these flaps on everything or at least allow us to hide them.

I suspect we'll have to ask for this for the next 11 years as well. It's almost as if they decided to include those abominations to taunt us, since most people were and still are very vocal about them.

Having them on some outfits can be ok, but overall we should be able to hide them like we can with the mount upgrades.

It's almost like they have to. That dress shown a few posts behind is ridiculous looking with floating hip flaps. Is it the code? Are hip flaps the keystone that holds everything up? Ancient astronaut theorists agree, and point to Swtor as having a similar outfit issue the whole life of the game. What aren't they telling us?

Serious though, why? @ZOS_Kevin if the hip flaps guy is holding you all against your will, blink twice.

I don't understand why we keep getting these when the vast majority have made it very clear that we hate them.

Many of the games I've played over the last decade have had an increasingly high % of the cosmetic items that didn't really appeal to me in part or in full.

I'm kind of curious if it's possibly a case where the taste/desires of the people that spend tons of $ on cosmetic items in games might diverge from the taste/desires of those that spend smaller amounts or don't spend at all. Developers might be shifting their design approach to better aim at those that are bigger spenders.

Then again maybe I'm just getting old and out of it.

Please, please get rid of those and give us the option to hide any armour piece. I don't care if trolls will run around naked, I want to be able to hide my gloves and make dresses by combining the motifs I've been collecting.

The only bright side is when new motifs are introduced, it only takes me a second or two to decide if I'm interested. The presence of any flappers of any sort is grounds for instant rejection. A couple days ago there were a couple motifs and one costume featured in the crown store and it only took me a glance at each to reject them all.

Ok but seriously, who decided a DRESS needed hip guards and pauldrons? Who keeps deciding these things need to be on 90% of cosmetics?

It's not like it's been a secret that the playerbase dislikes them. We've been asking for literal years for a way to hide them, and for them to NOT be included in just about every Costume/Style/Motif. Yet time and again we get stuff like this dress.

It gets even more baffling because surely it takes more time and resources to render things with these unwanted additions than without them, so...why is it still happening so often?

Mind you my irritation isn't directed at you, but strictly at those who continue to disregard what so many have been asking for for so long

The stylistic design of armor has gotten worse over the years, rather than better.

The detail has improved, but it's really pretty sad how much of the later Motifs are just ''same-glop'' with minor variety, all with the ubiquitous oddly placed mid-forearm bit of armor on the hand pieces and often with strange cuffs over the calves in ways no real armor has ever or could ever function.

There's a lot less real-world representation than there once was, and the generic fantasy plop isn't nearly as believable as some of the earliest stuff they put in the game, even if there's more detail (though a lot of it has the weirdly flat-smooth playdough feel now for some reason.)

I'm not really a Skyrim guy, but my favorite armor in any ES game is the Imperial armor in that one... wish we'd get things more in line with that and less full body sweatsuit-with-metal-bits-in-weird-spots.

There are scant few options. We definitely need more.

I want texture options, but I would LOVE even more, colours that aren't shiny... my character is going to fight; she doesn't need to look like she's going to a disco.

I've added a list of Costumes that should be revised to the first post. If the developers/art team ever want to fix some of the more notorious, yet still fixable, costumes, then here they are. (Feel free to post names of additional outfits to be added to the list, I'll inspect & include them into the first post).

Though not a flapper problem, the top of my costumes to fix list is the Timbercrow Wanderer for its diaper butt. The difference is that there is no way the diaper butt is intended so it is clearly a bug that needs to be fixed. Given the astounding cost of the costume (in either blood or treasure), it desperately needs fixing.

I don't mean to be rude, but they're harrible. Many helms are not even scaled properly. An outside observation for many helms brings me to conclude they were never scaled at all, just left at whatever the default scaling value was.

Really sad but most of the 'styles' will require a rework along with the sets. Many things to adjust. Also missing dye channels.
