I understand that you don’t want us to escape combat in Cyrodiil by mounting. That’s fine.
But in the PvE open world this is a complete non-issue.
And not only is the “you can’t mount in combat” system unnecessary, the gameplay loop it creates in the open world is also infuriatingly obnoxious.
- You ignore mobs and continue to where you want to go, because mobs don’t do damage
- Mobs follow you indefinitely until you eventually get to where you are going
- Mobs then do one single attack and then disengage and run off
All in all it takes an insane amount of time to leave combat once it was initiated. And it gets initiated all the time, because without the Shadow Rider passive mob aggro range is way too large, so you aggro almost every single mob you remotely pass while riding or walking.
It happens often that 30% of the time spent traversing the open world is spent waiting at your target location to finally interact with the object until the system finally decides that mobs have de-aggroed. And god forbid you ran to a location where now the mobs have spent 1 minute on pathfinding to the location only to finally realize they can't reach it. Then you can go and make a cup of coffee, because you're not going to be interacting with any object any time soon.
The easy solution is to just let us mount and interact with objects in combat.
The harder solution is to rework the in-combat system fundamentally so that it’s not so obnoxious. I’ve played A LOT of other rpg games, and in no other single game is the in-combat system so noticeable and frustrating as in this game.
