Does anyone use Shocking Siphon for Dmg Dealing?

Trying to think of any way to Subclass my MagSorc that both stays on theme and doesn't hurt my build/playstyle since my current pure Sorc uses abilities from all three trees. Id have to give something i rely on up in order to subclass and I need to make it worth it.

Shocking/Mystic Siphon seems real neat on the tooltip, does shock damage, and a lot of the Grave Lord passives would benefit a Sorc.

    With subclassing running gravelord is farily comparable to running animal. The main difference to notice is breach vs defile. Most builds will run animal with deep fissure and predator. Animal also gives major expedition and snare immunity. Where grave lord gives you access to the extra dot from siphon.

    Generally mystic will match other aoe dots damage wise with the 2.9dmg/wd scaling over the course of the dot. It essentially does the same damage of quick cloak except over 20s instead of 30s.

    Yes, shocking siphon gets used. Warning though that without corpses on the boss it’s very rough to actually use.

    The other morph is used more often (in PvE at least) because it deals more damage, but Mystic Siphon is definitely nice too.

    I'd personally only use the Grave Lord skill line if wanted to use a rotation based around Blighted Blastbones, though, so that it's easy to place a corpse near your targets (and it's the strongest Grave Lord skill by far).

    You need to also run Blastbones or Flame Skull to generate a corpse on top of the boss. In theory, for a stationary boss, these skills will always produce a workable corpse for you to use the skill. In practice, with other mechanics, I find the targeting and location inconsistent and a bit distracting. But necro passives and the ult are pretty good.

    Theme-wise, I would say Shocking Tether looks more necromantic than lightning-y. The shock mage summon is a nice lightning effect.

    If you want to buff your lightning skills, you can also replace your Major Prophecy skill (like Inner Light) with Grim Focus from Assassination, which gives you 2.5% crit chance per skill slotted (plus 6-12% more if flanking and/or playing solo)—without even needing to use the skill.

    I should've taken the fact it requires a corpse to even function into more consideration, unfortunate that giving new Classes these quirks can get in the way, plus;

    I guess that settles it. Initially I had been excited for Subclassing, but after having time to really think about it I just can't find any real ways of going about it that lets me stay within the playstyle I've built over the years.

    ive tried the siphons out on necromancer and ive found them extremely annoying to use

    the dmg is OK, but the radius of the dmg is very small and reliant on getting corpses to keep it up (which usually requires using another necromancer skill to spawn the corpse if theres no adds in the boss fights)

    i would have actually liked it a bit more if it could just directly attach to the target, and would fit the necromancer theme as "draining the life force" without it being too overpowering as well as not relying on the gimmicky mechanic of having to target the corpse

    i have my main house (grand topal hideaway) listed in the housing tours, it has multiple target dummies, scribing altar, and grandmaster stations (in progress being filled out), as well as almost every antiquity furnishing on display to preview them

    You can still subclass while maintaining the pure lightning mage style. You can subclass into both assassination and Aedric spear skill lines for passives only. Main storm calling and weapon and scribing skills for lightning damage.

    You can also use sets for even more lightning theme style, my favorites are Storm Cursed (main set on body) , Monolith, Thunder Caller (heavy attack), Stormfist, and Molag Kena. Honorable mention for lightning theme sets like auroran and overwhelming. The only problem is that most of these sets' bonuses are random to say the least which sadly bring down their overall damage.
