Battlegrounds Lobbies Since U47

In update 47 ZOS have made a long overdue change to Battlegrounds. For the first time since they introduced the two-team BGs, games are once again able to start without full teams. Since the change on Monday, I have not had one single BG time out, this is an incredible improvement and one the player base has been asking for since U44. It's not a full roll back, in so much as the games still need at least 3 people per team in 4v4 or 6 people per team in 8v8, but this small change has made all the difference. Games always failed to load waiting for the last one or two people to fill, and that is no longer a thing. In 9/10 games, the missing person fills during the "waiting to start" 45 second timer.

@ZOS_Kevin @ZOS_NickD Not sure who to tag here, but seriously, thank you for fixing this situation. Is someone able to comment on whether the underlying issue of MMR resets was also addressed? Because games starting is amazing, but without first stopping the monthly MMR resets, I think the significance of this change will be lost on a lot of people who are victims of the unfair matchmaking.

Maybe MMR resets have already been addressed and not included in the patch notes, but if it's possible for a ZOS employee here to respond, rather than having to wait until the start of the month to find out would be greatly appreciated.

Is there any consideration for including changes to the BG maps in patch notes going forward? There have been many changes to the maps/sigil mechanics that haven't been included in patch notes (for instance power sigils being nerfed, or how sigils once grabbed would effect everyone in proximity, but now only effect the team of the person grabbing it, minor changes to environments/removing invisible walls). Some of these changes have been good, some have been bad, but the recent changes have been incredibly thoughtful: U47 lobby fix, and the underappreciated U46 fix to make the power sigil to the right of the base in Reman's Folly correctly glow red, instead of blue, so you are able to identify before the match starts.

It would be nice if BG players were given the same consideration as other groups of players when it comes to inclusion in the patch notes.

That being said, good job, keep it up! I hope we see more stuff like this going forward!

Thanks for reading.

Seriously? Now, in addition to having dudes who can't play 4v4 maps, you also have a team that's not full vs a full team. It's amazing how some players can enjoy another ZOS failure. What they did was literally one of the most unfortunate and short-sighted decisions for 4v4. Although you might be another casual PvP adept.

Hi PureeEvil, seems like we're having polar opposite experiences in 4v4. Could you elaborate on how you think the games actually starting impacts 4v4 queues?

This is huge actually. Nice to be able to get in games and play after sitting in que burning all my golden food.

Yeah I sure hope they remove the MMR reset, it is the biggest issue when it comes to unbalanced teams and new players quitting.
We should use the insightful and awesome buttons more

Considering this change is not in Patch notes i would like to ask @ZOS_Kevin was this change intentional and for some reason it just wasn't included in the patch notes or is it a bug?

It definitely seems intentional, with it only starting if the teams are mostly filled. Consistently 3 per team in 4v4 or 6 per team in 8v8. Unfortunately very few, maybe none, of the BG changes they have made after U44 have been in the patch notes, but it would be great to hear from @ZOS_Kevin if he could shed some light on the situation.

Definitely would be a good thing if they were to include changes like this in the patch notes. Especially ones the player base has been wanting for so long, and it would be cool to see them announce the map/sigil changes they've been making too.

U47 also added bonus damage/healing to your team when the team is missing players, wish this could be communicated more clearly so players understand that matches starting without their team being full are (mostly) balanced still

    Underdog Damage Bonus.

This is bizarre. It's just really bizarre. Not that they didn't communicate it, but that they did it.

So, if you are fighting 1v1 on a flag in 8v8 domination, being the better player matters less now because one player has a buff the other doesnt have.

This can't be real...I mean, it can't be real. Fighting 1v1 is very likely and a very real possibility, especially towards the end of the match and even if you are playing objectives.

Zos really cant do anything good without throwing in something worse. They just cant help themselves. They bake a cake and then frost it with crisco, every.single.time.

    It's just bizarre.

Edit: i believe it's 5% buff to healing and damage, which may not seem like a lot, but it is. I will take 6 people and 5% buff to damage and healing over another rando every single time. I will now hope one of my teammates leave the bg every single time. I just wish is was 12.5%.

Thanks zos for giving me something to look forward to in bgs again. I take back my negative comment.

Updating this post to reflect that after they changed the patchnotes to include the queue update, and mistyped it as 7 people in 8v8, you can no longer start the game with 6 people per team. I have had one dead lobby since then.

Great read for anyone interested in understanding why bgs are in the state they are in.
