Master Writs for non master crafters? Bug?

So I just did some normal crafting dailies and was very surprised to see that two of my minicrafters received a woodworking master writ.

One of them has their woodworking at level 40, the other at level 10, so by no means they should receive a master writ.

As far as I know the master writs should only drop for those who have woodworking at level 50/doing top tier writs, or did something change and I missed it in the patch notes?

Did anybody else encounter this?

Likewise. I have also received 3 (so far) woodworking master writs on character that should not be eligible as they are are doing tier one writs in that skill-line.

Hello! We can confirm that this is a bug and related to the issue called out in this thread. Those characters you mention should be getting survey reports and are instead getting master writs. This will be fixed in an upcoming incremental patch.

As far as I remember, you need to do the top tier writs (sanded ruby ash) in order to receive master writs. And those two lower level crafters I mentioned above don't do those. One is doing maple writs and the other one beech, I think. So basically they are complete woodworking noobs and shouldn't get the master writs...

Receiving them at this level would be complete news to me as none of my lower level crafters has ever received master writs before...

@ZOS_Kevin: could you enlighten me in this matter? I really don't want to get into trouble for doing those master writs if indeed this is an unintentional bug.

Ah, this is good to know. Thank you for the quick answer! I guess it is safe to keep and do those master writs, even if we are not supposed to get them? Or would it be better to just destroy them?

Yeah, I got a total of 2 surveys today instead of the usual 5-6 out of 7 characters (all max level crafting, all research done). So I think there's some extra issues going on there.

Yeah, I got a total of 2 surveys today instead of the usual 5-6 out of 7 characters (all max level crafting, all research done). So I think there's some extra issues going on there.

Surveys have a 12.5% chance to drop, regardless of level or tier or research. They are not influenced by those things like master writs are. Since master writs are being given whenever the game rolls for clothing and woodworking surveys right now, you had only 5 chances per character to get a survey instead of the usual 7 (assuming you do jewelrycrafting). Getting 2 surveys is a drop rate of 5.7% over those 35 attempts, which is poor luck but still appears to be feasible with a chance of 12.5% and that small a sample size. Another set or two of 35 writs would help indicate whether there is something amiss or if it’s still within the realm of RNG.

If you have logs of what you got, then you should also be able to tell whether you got any master writs that replaced surveys for clothing and woodworking. If you don’t get a survey from those writs, then you get a shipment of refined mats in its place (a consolation prize, essentially). So for writs where you did *not* get a shipment of planks or cloth/leather, then the game rolled to give you a survey. The survey just would have looked and walked and quacked like a master writ when it dropped.

People are running out of clothing materials, survey's used to sustain your writs.
yikes hopefully it gets patched soon.
