Friendly reminder that if you get a motif lead from a treasure map, don't scry it immediately. Wait until you are completely done buying maps and digging up treasure maps for the week. You won't get duplicate motif page leads if you already have un-scryed lead for page in your journal.

I guess if your goal is to just sell the motif pages, not collect them, you can just scry and excavate immediately. But I always leave the leads in journal so I don't spend thousands and thousands of Archival Fortunes and end up with Ancestral Reach Belts ten times...

This have been proved false, it isn't curated. The game always rolls for all available leads, even for leads you have looted but not scryed/dug up.

Oh, that stinks. But I'd probably rather get 1 treasure chest with belts page and 9 treasure chests with nothing, rather then 10 treasure chests with belts. The excitement followed by disappointment feels worse than getting nothing.

This exactly. Don't listen to that other guy, he doesn't know what he is talking about and is actually supporting your statement while trying to discredit it.

EDIT: there has been nothing confirming how the game's rng system works; not froom the devs, or anything other than anecdotal "person said x" which people are parroting as fact without understanding it at all.

What can be confirmed is what drops from playing the game and through testing, which is that you cannot loot a lead already looted but not dug up yet. Even the patch notes and devs have explained this is how it works. Arguing this favt is arguing with the devs themselves.

This logically ends up with the leads left in the loot pool of available drops being the only ones obtainable henceforth. Again, logic and common sense dictate that once you make the amount of available items to drop less, then only those remaining will be next to drop.

I don't know why people are throwing around this misinformation of how the system works, but I'm a bit tired of it. It ends up being interpreted as "you are doing a bad/less effective thing by holding onto leads" because they want you to think you are hurting your drop chances, and frankly, that is just completely untrue.

Whether it is intentional or not, it ends up hurting the community because everyone starts picking up and believing things that are wrong and spreading it to their friends as facts, and since your friends are people you strongly trust, you accept it as undeniable fact from a trusted source.

If you understand the ripple effect, then you can see how this eventually can lead to bigger issues, anyway, I digress.

My point is, Dagoth_Rac, you are correct.

Hun hun, "which is that you cannot loot a lead already looted but not dug up yet." just means you can't stockpile leads, it doesn't disprove the fact the game doesn't remove the lead from the loot pool, you just get nothing more if you get it again.
Some big treasure maps farmers have reached the same conclusion. I, myself, dug up hundreds and hundreds of Ancestral motifs. I tested holding and not holding the leads, and the more leads of an Ancestral motif you hold, the rarer the remaining ones seem get. Of course we can't be certain about this as you said, we can't see how the code works, but the consensus atm is "theory says you should hold them, but testing says you shouldn't."

Anyway, about the misinformation rant, know that you attack the wrong person as I'm fighting this, for example on all the tinfoil hats theories about Perfect Roe drops. It is still plagued by parroting and "but x happened to me" things. The chance is 1%, whether you fillet it yourself or at a station, end of story. But the misinformation is still rampant...

              My two cents:

I just completed the "grand tour" of motif leads from: reach, blackwood, deadlands and high isle

Also did I try different things: holding onto leads, scrying leads at once they are available, scrying leads at once they are available and excavating them.

And I varied the number of treasure maps I used each day for a single zone: around 5, around 10 and around 20.

Anecdotal experience, of course, but I am also thinking that leads, you hold on to, simply can't redrop. That doesn't mean that leads you are missing will drop. You just get nothing if RNG would give you a lead you already/still have active.

But I noticed, the more maps I did use on a single day, the better were my chances to get missing leads. I did combine that with scrying and excavating always as soon as a lead became available.

From all four motif sets mentioned at the beginning, I completed the last missing motifs (two times bow, two times helmet) on days I used around 20 treasure maps and scried and excavated every lead at once it was available.

Following this method, in all four zones I got from 20 treasure maps each roundabout 4-6 motif leads and finally the last missing motif lead.

I also noticed, might be accidental, that no single motif lead dropped twice on the same single day.

Around 50 maps from each zone were necessary for me to complete the motif leads for each zone.

              My personal conclusion:
It doesn't look like the motif lead drops are curated based on your missing leads from the stickerbook.

But it may be, that motif lead drops are curated on a smaller scale based on what has already dropped for you on a single day.

              My personal suggestion:
If I would have to go for motif leads hunt for a certain zone the first time, I would wait until I have 30 treasure maps for this zone available, use them all on the same single day, scrying and excavating each lead as soon as it gets available.

I believe, this way I maximise my chances to get all motif leads as well as maximising the number of motif leads overall for selling.

              Edit for typos
