    15 424 ms 502 ms 626 ms 159.100.230.1

@MrGarlic how do you get that info ^^ ?

Open a command prompt (Right click on the windows 'start' icon, select run and enter CMD in the text box)

    Then type tracert 159.100.230.1

If any 'hop' indicates timed out, then that just means the router is configured to ignore trace requests.

EDIT: The IP address 159.100.230.1 is the Euro server. Change to 198.20.200.1 for NA server.

    @MrGarlic Thank you<3
    So I've run trace route twice for the EU server and I'm seeing 591 / 611/ 584 and 324 / 303 / 295 ms on the first one with akamai, and for the second it's 519 / 506 / 562 and 309 / 287 / 359 ms with akamai. Ping was <400 for both.
Third trace route had lower numbers for akamai but 500+ ping in game.
I'm by no means an expert so this means akamai is causing the ping spikes?
Is it ZOS routing the game through akamai or is it my provider?

Wow, those are high numbers, are you on wifi (wireless)? If so, get a wired connection going. If you are wired and getting those numbers, then I would be going after your ISP, 287ms to almost 600ms on a wired connection is unacceptable.

Here is mine on a wired connection, I am 1500 miles away from the servers in Texas:

    7. 3 ms 3 ms 2 ms xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx
    8. * * * Request timed out.
    9. 17 ms 15 ms 15 ms akamai-ic-378502.ip.twelve99-cust.net [62.115.166.53]
    10. 15 ms 14 ms 14 ms a96-6-145-25.deploy.static.akamaitechnologies.com [96.6.145.25]
    11. 37 ms 35 ms 36 ms a184-26-104-146.deploy.static.akamaitechnologies.com [184.26.104.146]
    12. 33 ms 33 ms 33 ms 198.20.200.1

Your not getting what you paid for from your ISP.

The "a184-26-104-146.deploy.static.akamaitechnologies.com" seems to be located near Wichita Kansas and seems to be using PROLEXIC-TECHNOLOGIES-DDOS-MITIGATION-NETWORK, part of the akamai technologies.

    Edited for clarity.

No, that is a wired connection. Note Melbourne is, if I recall correctly, 500km closer to Texas than Germany, which isn't a lot. Also, my ping isn't usually this high; I've been getting severe spikes since the last patch. Normally it's been around 300-320. Definitely doesn't seem to be affecting my internet in any other way - Ookla on the same PC gives 6 - 101 ping. So it's got to be something to do with my connection to the EU server.

there is def something going on with game stability -have high latency both servers i play
and its noticeable when interacting with items or in fights

Yeah ive had this problem too, did yours start back in 2014-2015? For some reason cyrodil is always a little bit laggy, I wonder has anyone else heard of this issue?

I am PVE only and yesterday was bad in Malabal Tor. Trying to complete quests was quite painful. I gave up after finishing the quest for the Silvenar's wedding. Went upstairs to save the three mages and the NPCs just stood there. They could damage me but nothing I did damaged them. They didn't even go hostile until I hit them with a spell, me standing right there by them.

I don't know what happened with this last update, but sadly what was fixed for me, is now broken again. Not to mention I still cannot close the dang game anymore!!!!

back in 2016 had some probs with game -changed my ISP and connection to fiber and had minor issues since then
some game cycles gameplay is very unstable -most latency probs ,fe Summerset launch was a nightmare for months ....
now, since Update 45 my latency goes to 165-175 from very stable 100 EU server and from 200 to 250-300 NA server
during some fights you can clearly see that while you do damage.mobs pile up and die suddenly -this is high latency that occurs momentary and goes back to normal

Yeah, definitely a combination of factors, but a large part is due to Akamai Prolexic, a DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) mitigation service (and Zos bad netcode? not totally convinced as I and many others have a low ping). My trace was routed through 2 Akamai Prolexic scrubbing centers (same location) and my ping went from 3ms to 35ms, that is a 12 fold difference. I do not notice it as I started with a low ping. But your data shows you start with a higher ping and it gets even higher through the Akamai Prolexic scrubbing centers, hence you are feeling it. There's not much you can do to bypass it. The high ping is a tradeoff for security. You can try using a VPN to find a better route to the destination (this sometimes helps, sometimes not). You can try contacting your service provider and report the latency; they may be able to adjust mitigation settings if not under attack. Your Ookla test on the same PC gives 6 - 101 ping, which is too much of a range and may indicate service instability; my ISP consistently shows a low ping. Hope you get this sorted out, good luck.

Wow since the last patch the delays are back and worse than before. I am in Coldharbour and I had to stand at a wayshrine 15 seconds before the game realized I was there and counted it as known. Same thing with a boss. Was halfway in the fight before the game showed the boss as known on my map. Gonna need a new keyboard I am hitting keys so many times and I am lucky if 1 out of 5 count in the game....

    EDIT:

Welp Akami spiking at 700ms is the problem! My route is always 2-3MS EXCEPT for Akami.
