Suggestion: achievement tracking

So you know how Golden Pursuits have these pins that allow players to track their progress on the HUD, without delving into the menus? This is a wonderful feature (but please fix the thing where it automatically pins a task).

Can we have this feature applied to the achievements also? For example, there are achievements to kill a certain number of enemies, or pickpocket a certain number of people, or do specific quests a set amount, harvest resources, use survey maps, etc, and it would be really neat if we could pin and track these, too.

And it would be even neater if it was possible to track not just the numbers, but also listed items. For example, skill style achievements have a list of fragments. Fishing achievements have a list of rare fish in the zone. Companions and their unique tasks. There's that achievement in Galen where we need to pet specific animals (loved that one, please use these animations more). I had to get a paper and a pencil for the laundry list of verses and visions in the Infinite Archive.

It would be amazing if we could pin achievements such as these and make them list the remaining items straight on the HUD, without us having to dig through the menus. I've seen this in a different MMO and it was very convenient, but I don't know if it can be implemented in ESO. Would be awesome though.

Good Lord, no!

It's bad enough that zos still hasn't fixed the Golden Pursuit visual pollution of the undismissable 'collect your [unwanted & unasked for] golden pursuit reward' permanently shouting right across the middle of my screen without adding yet another [unwanted & unasked for] broken 'feature'.

In any event, achievements post-awa are meaningless when I can create a nascent character who can immediately be 'former emperor' etc. Grand Master crafter is a joke given you can get the once challenging motifs by looping through a bunch of characters and using the blue base racial motifs. ... etc. ... ad nauseum.

And anyway, you can pretty much recreate a lookup for any achievement you want: just link the desired achievement to chat to create a clicky which will give you that particular achievement's description/requirements on demand.

Slipping past the negativity up there, I would love to be able to track achievements. Let me see I have 257/500 of whatever without having to nip in and out of the full achievement window. Let me see who I've yet to take out on the Blackest Sacrament without squinting to see which names are faded.

No need for additional broken features when extant capability more than suffices.

Depending upon what you wish to track, there are often add-ons that will do just what you're looking for. Mileage may vary depending on which platform you're on. Consoles were only just recently given add-on support so not as many options yet. But PC has tons of them.

For example.. Rare Fish Tracker puts up a display showing which fish you have, and what you're missing, towards the angler achievement for the zone you're currently in.

An "achievement pin" option would be great. Heck, I'd even expand that to an "endeavor pin" option as well.

But... please for the love of Hircine make "unpinned" the default. It's so annoying that every Golden Pursuit the first thing you need to do on logging into any character is unpin them.

Links only show achievement progress at the time it was linked, they don't track progress, even if you repaste the link.

FCO change stuff add-on has settings for turning off Golden Pursuit but unfortunately will not kill that annoying 'claim your ....' polluting the central portion of the display.

But that is the fundamental problem with any of these 'features' - they always enforce the change and require anyone who never asked for it nor wants it to jump through hoops in order to get rid of them or find workarounds, except when it's impossible to do so, as is the case with the golden pursuit claim reward message.

It's yet another of those situations where the devs seem to be obstinately ignoring ubiquitous player feedback.

Given long years of experience of this I think it's better to simply voice opposition to stuff like this, especially when the request itself is rendered redundant by extant features or can be provided by add-ons.

Anyway, even if implemented, such suggestions are invariably 'interpreted' - eg requested feature: class change, interpreted result: subclassing. Or some other change is implemented while using the feature request as an excuse for doing so, eg. AwA where class specifics were stripped for 'performance' (or to provide room for a card game) while the initial PR touted it as 'you asked for it' while rendering many of those aggregated achievements utterly meaningless in game terms as a result.

So long as it is something that has to be selected and will never just appear on it's own I don't care. Might be useful for some I suppose. Really though since things went account wide achievements can no longer actually be obtained unless your account is limited to one character.

Probably a more useful feature request would be to have those links provide valid data. As they should.

yeah there are times where i would like to have the ability to pin or track and achievement without going through the whole menu

linking the achievement in chat does not update progress as you complete it as it is basically a snapshot at the moment in time you linked it

achievements are absolutely not meaningless to me, and actually matter more with the account wide achievements, so having better ways to track "grind" ones would be ideal

endeavors are pretty easy using the endeavor tracker addon, easy visuals and real time tracking and it collapses itself when i finished all of the endeavor options for the daily or weekly

i would agree with the auto pin on gold pursuits

Just because this feature bugged out for you specifically doesn't mean that anything else ZOS add will definitely be broken for you specifically.

Links in chat don't update, as pointed out by everybody else.

And I'm siding with those who actually loved the shift to account-wide achievements. Collecting every single one achievement on every single character you have is pointless. For example, the vampire and werewolf ones kinda need you to get one curse, do everything related, then cure it and get the other curse, which is dumb. I'd rather use all of my characters fully, instead of having to commit all of my time and effort just to one because others have separate progress.

That's not helping when the chat is constantly flooded by guild advertisements. And it also updates only when you make some progress on an achievement, while what I mean is rather something like a reminder or a checklist.

I'd like this, for both achievements and endeavours. Yes obviously it should be something that only happens if you choose to track an achievement, and only for ones you choose (and that should be fixed for golden pursuits too) but it would be nice to have the option.

I'm using an addon to track achievements, but the downside to it being an addon is it can't add them into the quest log so I have seperate lists instead of just 1. I'd like to be able to have it all together, like golden pursuits.

Not only does it give a list of your recent completed and partially completed achievements but also has a Favourites (pin) function.

As someone who just did most of the fishing achievements, this sooo much.

I kept having to go into the achievements, scroll down to the specific area then remember where they put the fishing achievements to see what fish I need/how many more I needed.

I would also like this for endeavors as well.

While addons are great and I use them (not for achievements since I really just started pursuing those specifically) they aren't available for everyone and they can also break due to updates to the game.

Thanks, that definitely would have been useful! Unfortunately (or fortunately! depending on how you look at it), I now only have imperial city to get (and solstice, but don't have access to that area yet) and I am sort of afraid to head into IC :P

Yeah, I figured that it would be easy to do once it wasn't Mayhem time, so I have been waiting.

I also wanted to wait for mount swimming, and I am happy to say that companions do not just leap off a multirider horse in water!

Given that one of the biggest arguments against doing this seems to be about 'forced' usage, basically it automatically tracking something, I don't see how there is an issue because I highly doubt it would randomly start tracking one of the many, many, achievements without being prompted to. I agree that would be somewhat absurd.
I am all for achievement tracking being implemented because for those of us that fo care about achievements it would be a massive boon and save so much scrabbling through the categories all the while.

The more features the game have the less addons needed im game. Would help a lot. Optional, of course.

But meanwhile you may want to check Votan's achievement overview, which tracks in the summary menu of achievements the ones that you made progress recently. I also liked AwA a lot, simplified things so much for me, even if my alt dont have the particular collectible for every chapter (blackwood tapestry, Elsweyr mural, etc), so my main have everything.

That does look kinda interesting, but it seems to alter the default achievement menu, and I don't really want that. I'm fine with the way it is now, I just want to pin the thing I'm currently working on. Are there options in this addon that remove all the modifications and just allow pinning achievements?

This is one of the things I wasn't fond of when I looked at Votan's.

I tend to prefer when addons don't alter existing menus but rather just add to them, so I would have far preferred just having the ability to favorite achievements and have an added tab, than having the default menu altered.

Confirming it's a broken 'feature' or, at best, poorly incompletely implemented. If this was fixed to work as expected (dynamically updating) then any achievment list(s) would be available on demand. Both would've been better. But, unfortunately, eso development doesn't seem to do 'options' very well or at all.

I could have got behind others' suggestion for an OPTIONAL implementation of the original suggested 'feature' - or suggested it myself, but for the years of experience of this apparent and unfortunate developmental myopia.

How can I do this on console?

Assuming question is not rhetorical - no idea.

If add-ons are now implemented on console and you have access to the same (or some) script commands via chat then try copy/pasting/typing the link in text to chat and seeing if that works? On pc you can go to the achievements journal tab and generate such a link from there....sorry, but I have no experience with console(s) so can only speculate and respectfully suggest experimentation.
