Dark Anchors

claudius_Dark
What initiates the Anchor?

Is it a quest?

How high level should I be to fight a dark anchor? I am in the dominion in Auribon.

I don't think there are any requirements as far as fighting is concerned, but you need to have started Fighters Guild quest line to get exp and achievements. You'll need a group for it too, or just stand next to an anchor and wait for the other people to show up, which normally happens quite quickly.

Dark Anchors spawn at rather irregular intervals but they are hard to miss - a huge anchor coming from the sky that can be seen from far-far away and the horrible, awful grinding noise whenever you're even remotely close to one

might be wrong, but I think most, if not all of the achievements associated with dark anchors do not require you to be in the fighters guild to get them..

On the other hand there is no good reason not to be part of the fighters and the mages guild.. so... just go ahead and join up as soon as possible :p

Level of dark anchor is different per each anchor. You can guess what level it will be if you chceck level of mobs in the area if anchor.

the toughest anchors IMO are the ones where storm atro's spawn damn those can be sons of b's to defeat

just remember, if there are a ton of high lvls there you have to be quick to get your hits in for it to count, cuz the anchor will be downed in a min or two

to add to the above post you can also hear the anchor voice script when its about to drop, it overlays the background sound no matter where you are at. (its also in text for those who need to read it ) sounds like: *overly dramatic voice: oh mighty fluffy, take these offerings of cheetos and send me a something something nerd!! somebody I worship you!!! beseech beseech beseech!!!! If you hear that, then head on over to the anchor if you are close enough. too far it prob will be closed by the time you get to it

there are achievs for if you close it, and release the chains too, the diamond looking actionable items at the base

I'm not certain of this and nor do I have evidence, however I am under the assumption that player proximity determines if a Dark Anchor will initiate at the spawn location provided it has not already spawned within a certain amount of time. On occasion, there is nobody nearby when I near a Dark Anchor spawn location and the Worm Cultists spawn to summon the Anchor as I go by. It could purely be coincidental timing, I don't know.

As an example, the Redolent Loam Dolmen Anchor in Deshaan appears to spawn with increased frequency when compared to the other two (Lagomere and Siltreen) - more players are usually around that area questing. At least, this is part through my experience and part through players in Zone chat announcing the initiation of a Dark Anchor sequence.

would be nice if thats true, so you dont have to wait. today i saw one deconstruct itself, no one was near and it just blew up. must be on some sort of timer

Also, don't forget to close the anchor pins if you can. There is an achievement for that too.

I always feel kinda guilty if I manage to close more than 1 anchor pin in a dark anchor event.

it's not like I camp the pins like you see some ppl do :p

also if I manage to activate 2 of the pins I stop trying to activate the rest to give other players a shot at them

I read something in the patch notes for one of the past patches (maybe 1.02 or thereabouts) about dark anchors being fixed so that they would reset after a while if nobody was around.

Apart from the fixed Anchor placements, there should be some random ones which could appear everywhere. If not defeated the world should be dark and black and foggy. NPC's should hide/die

Blending the disciplines of the stealthy agent and subtle wizard, I move unseen and undetected, foil locks and traps, and teleport to safety when threatened, or strike like a viper from ambush. The College of Illusion hides me and fuddles or pacifies my opponents. The College of Mysticism detects my object, reflects and dispels enemy spells, and makes good my escape. The key to a nightblade's success is avoidance, by spell or by stealth; with these skills, all things are possible."

    I agree.

I mean, what are these static anchor sites anyway? And why did the local guards let the worm cult spend all that time creating them out of stone? That would've taken weeks, if not months, to build. And where'd they get the stone from? Surely the local authorities knew something nefarious was going on and could have stepped in?

Doesn't seem to make sense to me at all...

There are nor set rules - but I'd say wait around for some support before you pitch in (assuming you're playing solo). In my experience, as soon as a Dolmen activates players flock to it to take it down. Pitch in, and gain as much experience as you can. If you were in the mix, you'll take some of the XP.

Tips from me would be, close the anchor pins as soon as you can after they open, and don't be afraid to back off a little if you're getting beaten up. Let your health regen before you pitch back into the fight.

Anchors give you great experience when complete, and can give you some pretty cool drops too. It is always interesting to see the techniques that other players are fighting with, too - great for when you go player-to-player in Cyrodiil.
