It's entirely your choice of course, and we have no idea what your situation is, but if you need to wait for your salary payment to be able to gather a few tens of dollars to spend, it sounds like you might wish to reconsider whether a purely cosmetic item for a computer game is really the best use of your funds? Naturally value and enjoyment are different for everyone, and this is coming from someone who just doesn't think this cosmetic is worth this amount of real-world money even when one can easily afford it.

You do realize some people do budget by allocating only a portion of their regular salary towards frivolous/impulse/luxury purchases right? The OP may just well be able to afford it no problem, but doesn't dip outside their discretionary allotments until replenished.

We as fellow players are in no position to judge.

I would appear that either my earlier phrasing was unintentionally very misleading, or I'm running into some sort of significant cultural difference. Just goes to show the dangers of plain text on the worldwide internet I suppose.

To my mind there is a meaningful difference between "you should not do that" (negative, judgemental, policing), and "are you sure you want to do that?" (positive, friendly, supporting). The latter was my intent, but evidently this did not come across sufficiently clearly.

Apologies to teisoshin for causing a distraction in his thread. I shall refer my original post to the mods.

Use your gold you've earned and buy it for a gold->crown trade. that's how I do all purely cosmetic purchases, always only use my own crowns for DLC stuff if I missed one or have some to spare.

I totally agree with this and I don't understand what problem other people have with it. I think it's very well put and polite. I guess, some people have spent way too much money on cosmetics in games and are easily triggered when they see something reasonable that contradicts with their lifestyle choices.

I hate those sorts of comments. Poor people need happy lives too. Even if they don't have a lot of money, they will spend some small part of it on discretionary purchases because stress relief and happiness are actually necessities for good mental health. And you cannot tell by a single, relatively cheap purchase if someone is spending themselves out of house and home.

It's on them to police their own spending and fun absolutely should be part of their purchases. Making such judgemental statements is never helpful.

For me, my disdain of it goes back to neopets and them introducing neocash. The boards there were filled with 'why are people spending money on cosmetics! don't they know they could be donating that money to charity!' (yes, people were actually saying that the money should be donated)

Or telling people to pay their bills with the money, or spend it on something more 'worthwhile' (read: what the person who made the comment thought was a more worthwhile thing to spend money on)

We don't know other people's situation. It isn't up to us to treat other players like children who need reminders of whether or not they can afford something.

Some people have 9-5 dead end jobs [snip] and just want to spend what little excess money they have on a distraction. Assuming you even live long enough to retire/use any savings (a lot of people don't and just save money they never get to use), the exponential rate of wealth accumulation globally will render any little savings they could gather useless anyway, which is why a lot of people, myself included, just live in the moment with what we have.

So yeah, the cosmetic is worth it.

Doesn't help the OP much, though. When credit card or delayed paypal settlement is no option, then a CS ticket might work.
(And yeah, gifting apparently also requires a ticket these days.)

Seriously, though. Not EVERYTHING needs to be Limited Availability.
When almost everything of worth in the store is Limited Availability, FOMO stops working and you instead drive people away.
I used to be somewhat whale-ish in my spending here, but now I can't even remember the last thing I bought.
Because their over-reliance on FOMO tactics turned me off.

I opened this thinking it "oh maybe zos decided to remove mammoths from the game after seeing their massive fluffy butts peddle across vivec, looking completely misplaced - happy day". This reality is sadder though, but I am happy people understand that humans need time and spaces to enjoy life, and that living paycheck to paycheck doesn't make you some kind of robot that stops having desires and wanting things.

Honestly when I've seen the mammoth in game I haven't been particularly impressed, the leg animation just looked off to me. Maybe lag that day, but I genuinely wouldn't pay even half the price for it.

I can almost guarantee there will be more mammoths given the popularity of this one. Maybe to match the pocket mammoth colours. There will be more and this one will return to the store in future too.

If you don't have the free cash and you really really want it, ask for it as an early birthday/Christmas gift. But definitely don't cause yourself any financial hardship over some pixels. We do all deserve some fun regardless of income/situation. But fun doesn't have to be a $40 pet in a computer game! It doesn't have to be rewarding a company for crappy false scarcity marketing of a pet that's really overpriced. When I've been short of cash, I stretched it as far as possible and tried to spend most of it on things that would genuinely help my situation. :)

it's worth a try. they used to do this in the past more. not as much as they used to now, but it doesn't hurt to try. considering you're going to be purchasing crowns to do it, it's likely they will let you

Yeah, I've immediately thought the Mammoth is the perfect candidate to replicate what happened with the Psijic Senche Rath or whatever it's called - they recently swapped all "permanent sale" mounts and some of them previously were only limited time offers.

I agree this base Mammoth should sooner or later become permanently on sale.

there might be a solution, but it"s quite hard to pull off.

          1) Find someone that have crowns to gift you the mount
          2) Gift that someone something else that he needs when your salary comes.

Of course, that person must be trusting you, while as well needing something that can be bought later, and be willing to wait.

The odds are quite small, but it's a possibility

Or find a crown seller if you have the gold, but it is still hard to pull off.

Not everyone has access to PayPal, whom has a strong habit of arbitrary banning its customers at a moments notice. And credit cards for most people are predatory in nature.

And in all honesty, FOMO only works so much, and in many cases it often just leads to reduced sales as a whole. I know many people that would buy crowns more often if they were cheaper as a whole, but zos hasn't adjusted USD crowns ever, and only offer sales at certain times of the year.
