20 fps is extreme ? Absolute casual. I reach 5 fps in trials
But yeah, I've noticed that it got worse over the years, especially after u46
For all those players having issues, please state your full specs, resolution you play in, and software you use, maybe also include ISP and general location for connectivity issues. This way ZOS, and maybe players, have a bigger chance of being able to help you or to narrow down the issue(s). The more players who can play carefree, the better!

Advice: If your FPS drops that low, it sounds like a software conflict to me. Try experimenting with different AA types, as some AA types may not work or gives issues with some specific hardware. Other things to try: cap your FPS(driver software) and lower some specs like view distance, particle effects, player effects, specific render

Thank you for your concerns, I think the problems mostly come from my 100 addons and my 15 years old computer. With the lowest quality for everything, including subsampling quality, I can reach a decent ammount of fps though

    Add-ons are definitely a self-imposed performance tax.

Like when modding Skyrim, Fallout, Oblivion, etc. it is good to periodically pare them down otherwise your system can be overburdened.

I have never experienced the problems I had today in all my 11 years. fps drops and lag so crippling it bricks my computer.

Twice today I had to brute force leave the game because of a frozen screen.

    It is almost unplayable.

Normally I have around 100 fps, which drops slightly depending on what’s happening on the screen.

Today I can’t get better than 60fps, no matter what I try. And nothing has changed on my side.

So I updated my graphics driver, made sure all addons were up to date, turned off add-ons, rebooted my laptop, closed the launcher, closed all other non-essential things that were running… none of these things had a significant impact (turning off add-ons raised the fps with a whopping 5 fps).

Any ideas what else to try?

My gf's laptop (i7-10750H, GTX 1060ti) has been having an issue with FPS drops since the last update. Every time she gets on her mount FPS drops to 5, sometimes just bricks her computer. No other game has any issue, even newer, more resource intensive games.

I'm having no issues at all with bad fps drops on Ryzen 4600g,16gb ram, rtx4060, win11.With some updates there's graphics changes that can cause issues,so lowering your graphics may be needed, reset to default and adjust as needed.I do use nvidia app and let it optimize settings, but then I changed one setting cause I like windowed fullscreen, lol.Delete shadercache.cooked file and let it rebuild.Backup your usersettings.txt file, and let it remake it when you login,if it not the issue, then just use the backup again so you don't have to redo all settings.I know the camera settings got messed up for me the last update, and I had to go into the settings and reset them.
