I incorrectly got the "Welcome back returning player" message, even though I never stopped playing.

I have been playing ESO almost every single day for years on both EU and NA servers, but just now got some very weird and clearly incorrect "Welcome back Returning player" message and it said something about some bonus. I am not a returning player, as I have been playing the game almost every day without fail, for years I am very confused.
I submitted a bug report in the bugs category, as I couldn't find anywhere else to put it, but I really wouldn't mind some sort of explanation as to what might have gone wrong, because I am very confused. I hope someone might be able to help.

That message popped up for me yesterday even though I haven't taken a break for several years.

My guess is that maybe the game was temporarily having trouble loading in all of your data for some reason, or maybe it was loading in too slowly, so whatever the game looks at to determine when to pop up the hero's return feature got triggered.

I've not seen that, myself, although in the past I've occasionally experienced temporary glitches due to my data not loading in all the way, or not loading in fast enough, such as going to a crafting station and it didn't show my in-progress trait research.

It usually "fixes" itself the next time you log in, assuming the game can load everything in the next time.

As for why it happens in the first place, who knows? There might be something going on (such as perhaps DDoS attacks) that is temporarily bogging down the server.
