Sets that drop in the world rarely come in all three armor classes (Light, Medium, Heavy). Crafted Sets have potential to be some very powerful contenders in the game for your builds! They have the added benefit of being any armor class that you desire which allows you to craft a mixed set of armor of the same set. Say you wanted to get the most out of your Undaunted Mettle passive, wearing a piece of each armor class. You can craft a heavy chest, light belt and medium gloves to have all three armor classes, for example! Of course, thats not how you would build it in a real build however its just an example as to why Crafted Sets are a joy to work with in the game.beanasaurus wrote: »It seems like as long as I'm just playing the game, I'm constantly leveling and constantly being given a tidal wave of blue and purple gear, all of which keeps getting stronger because the gear is my current level and I level so frequently (currently CP 150). This being the case, I have yet to reach a point where it feels like it wouldn't be a waste of both time and resources to actually craft some ideal gear, as even if it was perfect and tailored to my exact preferences, it would be out-dated and replaced after a few dozen dailies. Which has me guessing that there's not really a point to crafting until I get to whatever the maximum gear level is.
But I'm new and there's a lot I don't know, so I'd like to hear the thoughts of some folks who are more experienced with the game. Thanks for the assist!

I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "kind" or "plain" as I haven't seen those terms used in the research I've done so far, but I'll try to answer as best I can. My Tailoring is 50 and my Blacksmithing and Carpentry are close behind it somewhere in the 40+ range. I've leveled Light, Heavy, and Medium armor skill lines all to 50, and currently tend to prefer Light as a Magicka PvE character. For the entirety of my time with the game so far I've done quests, dailies, and dungeons, and from the loot I earn with those I'm almost always equipped with a mix of set bonuses that boost stats I use. As far as what I actually craft...I don't so far, for the reasons outlined in my previous post. But I'm looking forward to either reaching the point where crafting my own gear seems worth the investment, or discovering that missing piece of knowledge that will provide me with a new perspective on the matter. You didnt metion what kind of armor you craft. Plain armor is only useful to upgrade every 15 levels or so. 3pieces sets like Orders Wrath are good and you can update it every 5-10 levels. Depending on you playstyle. Questing, PvP or dungeons ?! Your weakspot is between 45 and 50. There the beginner buff vanishes and build/armor starts to matter.beanasaurus wrote: »Which has me guessing that there's not really a point to crafting until I get to whatever the maximum gear level is.
Oh that's wonderful to know! How exciting to realize that I'm nearing the point where I can invest in gear without it feeling like I'll have to throw it out in a day or two.Once you hit CP 160, you’ll stop outgrowing gear as that’s the maximum level of gear. At this point you can work on putting a build together.
