Extremely Low Midyear Mayhem Turnout, Why?

GH is poplocked most of the time on PCNA but the other campaigns are dead. Evergloam has like 10 people active per faction.

Performance is, however, atrocious as always.
Big fights in GH cause disconnects from the trash server and then you have to queue again so most of the time you spend waiting to do the event instead of actually playing.

Upon reflection, I think the reason I just plain forgot is Vengeance. I did the PvP pursuit and Vengeance during its first run on PSNA and then I think that my mind basically registered that as the PvP event this time of year. They probably should have run the two together idk

They drop from event boxes, not restricted to the golden ones. You're also guaranteed to get one, and exactly one, every day if you open enough of them (rng). You get event boxes added to your rewards for the worthy (or you used to at least, I expect that's still the case).

You're not guaranteed to get one every day if you have to open X boxes to get it, and X could be anything from 1 to hundreds. In previous events, you always got a style page from the first golden box you opened. That's guaranteed.

IOW, by definition, something isn't guaranteed when RNG is involved, which it is in this case.

Just trying to help but whatever, next time maybe google it instead of asking...

Felt like every other 'summer Mayhem' to me.

PvD players like myself stick to the 7-day campaigns for AP, chasing that sweet low pop/low score. Emperors are crowned and dethroned and the choo-choo train goes on, only briefly slowed down by the occasional bomber.

    Business as usual.

The only thing I have noticed is that 'farming parties' that used to be a staple of the first weekend were notably absent; I encountered a couple on Friday evening but none after. The fact that hardly anyone bites anymore might have been a contributing factor.

The majority of players I have grouped with have finally wisened up to the fact that doing the 'merry chase' around the resource towers/keep walls only nets some AP (and entertainment) to those aforementiones parties, for the rest is a waste of time and potential AP. It has only taken a decade. We're slow learners.

The campaigns where PvP happens however seemed pop capped (PC/EU), well except Ravenwatch, which used to be a place where people like myself could dip their toes on actual PvP without being ROFLStomped in 2 GCDs flat - thus learning nothing in the process - until it was reverted to a ruleset that apparently pleases no one. Winning.

PC EU has multiple campaigns in Cyro pop locked at peak times (and sometimes off-peak times), with multiple IC campaigns being 2+ bars. CP IC in particular has been really busy whenever I have been in. My PvP guilds are having to run multiple groups for raids and event runs because that many guildies are wanting to join. We are having to go to the more far out campaigns like Ashpit and Evergloam because the queues for Grey Host and Blackreach are too long.

Am I seeing a different event to everyone else?

Yes, a few years ago at peak times everything was pop locked. You couldn't get in at all.

Just because the campaign shows it is 'pop-locked' doesn't mean it is actually active these days unfortunately.

Last night (admittedly prior to what would be considered primetime) the map went from really active to basically completely dead for around 1h (I logged off). It was as if everyone had afked at the same time.

For me compared to when I played at my most active the map activity now is completely dead in comparison - there used to be 3-4 'swords' on the map very often with multiple groups and pug groups.

    What has contributed to this:

    1) Reducing the group limit to 12 - This discourages large pug groups who used to use numbers to overcome performance issues.
    2) Balancing, Group strength when optimised is now so much higher compared to previous levels. This means if you are not optimised then you are at such a huge disadvantage now which cannot really be overcome by numbers (except for the fact that in lag desync issues can happen etc which are generally to the higher number group's advantage).
    3) Max server population - The max pop has been reduced so much that 12m groups are a large % of the population compared to the past.

Regarding the style pages, I've gotten one of the new style pages nearly every day of the event so far, usually from the first event coffer I've opened that day. I've only gotten one duplicate so far on PCEU, and I think there may have been one day on PCNA where I didn't get a new style page, but it's looking like I should get a full set on both servers by the time the event is over-- which is still just over a week away. So the drop rates seem pretty good to me, although they don't seem to be curated per se, and of course RNG is always a factor.

My participation in WSM has evolved over the years. It used to be that I would focus on doing town dailies and FG bounties, but nowadays I rarely do town quests-- unless I want to grab my tickets quickly-- and spend most of my time doing resource capture missions and trying to help capture or defend keeps and outposts. As for the amount of time I spend in Cyrodiil and IC, I've been doing all 6 IC district dailies-- which takes me about 30 to 40 minutes depending on how many enemy players are about and how aggressive they are about attacking anyone not from their alluance-- and then spending the rest of my time in Cyrodiil. Some days I've spent several hours (on each server) in Cyrodiil, but last night I had to limit it to just a couple of hours due to fatigue.

I'm definitely enjoying the event, despite how much more powerful and skillful most of the other pkayers are than me.
I've fought mudcrabs more fearsome than me!

I guess it does seem more empty then normal. I'm not a huge pvp guy though before a long break I really loved Cyro. These events are refreshing, a nice interruption of our weekly trials and prog. We're running guild groups, trying to do 3 of us non pvpers and 1 experienced guy. Super fun in BGs. I noticed that for Cyro though, only greyhost is full. There may be 1 bar on blue or red on another campaign and those are the ones to go into for the easy dailies. I'm not gonna speak to pvp issues as people who are much better then I have done so. I will say though that I'm having a great time with it. I'm glad it's here and it makes me want to do pvp more, especially BGs but then I remember the 3 team BGs and I'm sad lol.

IMO on PC NA only one campaign has fun fights. Once queue becomes more than an hour for it, it is time to do something else.

ZOS as someone who actually likes PvP, do not let the low turn out make you think that vengeance is the solution. Vengeance can exist as its own thing, but it is not a proper replacement of the exhilaration of Cyrodiil when it works.

Witchmother's Potent Brew (Increase Max Magicka by 2856, Max Health by 3094, and Magicka Recovery by 315 for 2 hours.
    • Trash Potions when feeling cheap: Regular CP150 Essence of Magicka pots that I obtain frequently from playing the game or Crown Tri-Restoration Potion obtained from dailies.
    • Crafted Potions: Essence of Spell Critical (Bugloss, Lady's Smock, and Water Hyacinth). Without magelight this is my primary means of obtaining Major Prophecy on my Sorc, which increases my Spell Critical Rating. This also heals and restores magicka. Essence of Immovability (Columbine, Corn Flower, and Wormwood). I use this in PvP, since this gives me stealth detection, knockback immunity, and restores magicka (better to use it when competent allies are nearby, since it might reveal that you are surrounded by multiple players in stealth and you will not have an emergency pot available after use). Essence of Invisibility with only 2 ingredients (Blue Entoloma, Namira's Rot, Nirnroot, or Spider Egg). I use this in PvE content that requires stealth and if I need more speed I'll use Rapid Maneuver before using the potion. Essence of Invisibility with 3 ingredients (Blessed Thistle, Blue Entoloma, and Namira's Rot). Very useful in PvP alongside the vampire Dark Stalker passive, since you'll be invisible, ignore movement speed penalty while in Crouch, and you'll have a 30% movement speed boost from Major Expedition (I always have this slotted when riding from point A to B in PvP land, since gankers are always lurking). My templar/arcanist will mostly use Essence of Health (Tri-Stat Potion) Ingredients: (Mountain Flower, Columbine, and Bugloss).

The constant server issues have just turned me off the game completely. That and the long maintenance windows which don't actually appear to maintain anything just makes me not want to log in. This is, for me, the main reason why I haven't been playing it much. It's sad, because I really do love this game.

It's definitely the lowest turnout yet on PC NA by a wide margin. So much so that if they had added just one additional CP campaign and nothing else, I don't think there would be any overcrowding issues whatsoever. Really unfortunate.

    Agree.

And yet, the queue is still 90 because people just runk afk macros so they don't log out and have to hit the queue.

    OR.. they lowered pop.

But agree this is hands down the most boring and dead MYM I've ever played since the creation of the event. Really sad... PVP has so much momentun since the veng tests (say what you will about the test itself but the cyro hasn't been that packed in many many years).

Subclassing harmed class identity and created even more power creep in all areas of the game, including PVP.

Players are tired of shifting goal posts leading to low turn out.

Themes and concepts matter. By blending everything you can have everything power wise sure, but we lose something along the way that takes away from ESO as a game.

Making subclassing more systematic with a comprehensive vision and clear benefits and trade offs for staying as a class or dipping into others may help.

We just had the Vengeance test.

A Cyrodiil campaign with good performance, some of the best balance ESO has seen, and huge battles with hundreds of players. Now you want players to go into a version with low population caps, poor performance and bugs, allows near god mode with heal/shield stacking, and is currently experiencing the worst balance in the history of the game. Here's 3000 combinations, but to be competitive you better have Streak and Spec Bow on your bars! Just in case you had to put some effort in here is Major Savagery/Prophecy while slotted on either bar of course, and a 3rd Spec Bow proc for our special little muffin in U47!

No thanks, Vengeance the third will be my Midyear Mayhem.
    Grave Robber - Robbed
    Harmony - Shattered
    Stalking Blastbones - Sacrificed
    Corpse Consumers - Buried

Perhaps players actually don't bother playing Midyear because they quit pvp entirely due to the fact that they expect Vengeance to be implemented along with its stale boring fights.

I hope if they implement vengeance that they make BG's and IC also vengeance ruleset so that there's no escape for people who are pushing for the implementation of it into Cyrodiil.

After all why would people not want to play with those perfectly balanced and uniform skill sets in all forms of PVP content.
