Right, sorry, I forgot about that. Figured it was an add-on thing. Thanks, ZOS_Phoenix!

Yes I am getting it too, only since addons. I have already tried deleting save data and also manually syncing the data. Addons are not retaining their settings either which is quite annoying configuring them repeatedly

I also tried removing each addon I have separately but I think the damage has already happened somewhere

@ZOS_Icy @ZOS_Phoenix this seems to be a client side error on the game internally rather than a Playstation issue. Can this be further investigated on ZOS's end of things? I submitted a ticket for this issue and the best I could be told was to go to playstation. But clearing saved data does not work. Nothing I've done on the PS side of things has seemed to resolve this issue. Also, has this issue been reported for xbox users?

After U46, several settings were already resetting (guild store recent searches, banked items when deconning, etc.) even before add ons were released. Why is technical support quick to assume this is a Playstation issue?

This is definitely an issue on XBox as well. Can't speak for the OP's issue as I haven't even opened the Add-On UI yet.

@ZOS_Phoenix @ZOS_Icy Almost everyone in my guild that plays om PS-EU has the issue when using add-ons that at some point the "SAVE ERROR - The auto save file failed to save correctly. Would you like to try again? If not, saving will be disabled" pops up. From that point on, either you say Yes and the error pops up after a few minutes or you say No and any changes you make to add-on settings won't be saved, so the next time you login, you'll have to change those settings again.

The only work around at the moment is by going to the Playstation setting and delete the Elder Scrolls Online save game file. But that is very cumbersome as you have to set up lots of Elder Scrolls Online settings again after logging in again and also ALL add-on settings. And it isn't even a permanent solution as the error will come back again after a few days.

At first, I thought it was the issue with a specfiic add-on doing something wrong. But it can be any add-on that triggers this. I even build two add-ons of my own and made sure that I do everything by the book with regard to retrieving and saving add-ons settings and even then at some point the Save Error pops up.

It looks more and more likely that the add-ons framework that ZOS build into the Playstation version of Elder Scrolls Online does something wrong with saving to the local savegame files that the Playstation does not does like. Please ZOS, can you look into this and fix it as if it stays the way it is now, using add-ons is becomes very annoying on Playstation.

And if it is something that add-ons are doing wrong, please let us know what we are doing wrong with saving settings. Of how we should do it if it is different from PC Addons.

(I did post this at first in the Add-On section, but just noticed a similar thread was moved here, I add my comment to this thread and wanted to delete the one in the Add-Ons section, but as I can't delete my own post, can someone from ZOS please do that?)

Just wondering, have you had the issue come back? I did the removal of the local saved data and for a few days it seemed to all work well. But it did come back. I am not eager to have to through the whole process of deleting the local save data and setting every setting back, including for the settings of each and every add-on.

Yeah, I have. Every few days. Yesterday, I got it a couple of times, and DCed a couple of times. I ended up deleting my local data, deleting the PS cache, and rebuilding the database. Everything has been stable since then, and today. :crosses-fingers:

    Ongoing.

Same auto-save error on PS5. I have deleted save data, uninstalled addons, etc and the error persists. Might be a server side issue.

@ZOS_Icy @ZOS_Phoenix Can you let us know if this issue is being investigated by the team or that they are at least aware of it and have it on their to-do list? This makes add-ons on Playstation not very useable as once the error pops-up, no settings can be changed, they have to be set again every time you login.

Hi all, just wanted to follow up on this. We are working on getting some additional reporting tools to help the team resolve this issue. The team is aware and working toward a solution here. We’ll follow up once we have more information.

Timing wise, earliest we are looking at a fix is in U47. But that depends on some tracking factors.

I have found a workaround for the Save Error problem. But it is going to take a lot of work. This is the process:

    PRELIMINARY PROCEDURE
    1. Delete all the add-ons you have installed. Really, all of them and don't forget the libraries that me be left behind.
    2. Close Elder Scrolls Online (really close it, so if you are in the game, use the PS button (single press) then go in the bar to the game select it and choose close game.
    3. Go to the Playstation Settings - Saved Data and Game/App Settings.
    4. Select the Upload - Delete option
    5. Delete the local saved data from Elder Scrolls Online
    6. Go back one page
    7. Go to the Automatic upload option
    8. If you have auto upload turned on, make sure you disable it for Elder Scrolls Online (if at first you don't see the list, turn auto save fully off and back on, and then you see the list where you can deactivate auto upload on a per game basis)
    9. Start Elder Scrolls Online. You will first have to do all kinds of Elder Scrolls Online screen settings as those were also stored in the local save game. (Note, I have noted that if you select your server (NA or EU), it doesn't always take the right one at first, so after selecting that, you can choose it again, so switch to the other server and then back to the one you want)
    10. Login with a character and first go to Options and set every base-game setting the way you want it as some settings have been reset due to deleting the save game file.
    11. Logout
    12. Close Elder Scrolls Online (same as in step 2)
    13. Go to Playstation settings - Saved Data and Game/App Settings
    14. Go to the Upload - Delete option
    15. Now upload the local save game to the Playstation Cloud (overwrite the file that may be already there)

    INSTALLING ADD-ONS
    1. Start up Elder Scrolls Online
    2. In the character selection screen, press triangle for options then go to Add-ons. Install one and only one add-on (it may also automatically install some libraries, but that is okay)
    3. Login with a character
    4. Change the settings for the just installed add-on the way you want it set-up (if it has settings on a per character basis, you can also do that in one-go or decide to be safe and upload the changed settings after each character if the Save Error did not occur)
    5. When you have set the add-on up and so far haven't encountered the save error, Logout Out (this forces the game to save all settings)
    6. Wait a few seconds. If the Save Error doesn't show up continue with the next step. If the Save Error did show up, follow the steps below under Save Error Occurred.
    7. To be completely sure: close the game, start it again, load a character and check if the settings you made have actually been saved. If not, treat it is if a Save Error has occurred.
    8. Fully close the game again (same as before)
    9. Go to Playstation settings - Saved Data and Game/App Settings
    10. Go to the Upload - Delete option
    11. Now upload the local save game to the Playstation Cloud (overwrite the file that is already there)
    12. Repeat this from step one of the Installing Add-Ons section for each add-on you want.

    SAVE ERROR OCCURRED
    1. Uninstalled the last installed add-on(s) where the Save Error occurred after setting it up.
    2. Fully close Elder Scrolls Online
    3. Go to Playstation settings - Saved Data and Game/App Settings
    4. Go the download section
    5. Now download the save game from the Playstation Cloud to your local PS5 (overwrite the file that is already there)
    6. Now go back with the Installing Add-Ons sections to reinstall the add-on and set it up again.

    SOME NOTES
Basically, it all comes down to when everything went fine after installing a new add-on and setting it up, logout to force the game to save the settings in the save game file. If the Save Error does not show up, copy the save game to the cloud as a backup of a situation where the save game file isn't corrupted.

If at a later stage, you make any changes to an add-on or base-game setting and you don't get the Save Error after loggin out, upload the save game file to the cloud.

Every time you do get the Save Game Error, close the game and download the save game file from the cloud, restoring the settings to the situation where the error didn't occur and the save game file is not corrupt. If the Save Game Error occurred after installing a new add-on, first delete that add-on before downloading the save game from the cloud.

I am not sure yet how it will go when the Save Error pops-up after installing an add-on update. Not sure if it is just a matter of downloading the previous save-game file or if if will be necessary to delete the add-on first. I'll let you know if every get into this situation (but I hope not)

I hope this is of some help to everyone who experiences the Save Error.

P.S one additional warning: don't think too soon that everything works fine after installing an add-on and setting it up. I had the bad fortune that the last add-on I installed seemed to not give the error, so I uploaded the save-game file only to discover a few minutes later that it hadn't save the settings after all. So, I inserted a step in the prodedure.

I had a stable add-on setup. After the maintenance today, I logged into my alt account, and ran lots of quests, fished, crafted, and all was fine.

I logged into my main account, where I make all add-on changes. I added "Rare Fish Tracker," and immediately got the save error. My memory usage with Fish Tracker is just under 20Mb.

It's the same issue we've always been getting, @ZOS_Kevin.

Did you download a clean/stable version of your save data off the cloud? Once I uninstalled the new add-on, and overwrite my local save file with the cloud version, the error went away and I'm at pre-maintenance stability with my setup.
