Hi everyone,

Some of you have been running into an issue recently where the Launcher is closing or crashing when trying to load, particularly if you are using an older version of Windows. We've created a custom launcher build that should help anyone affected. After extraction, the Launcher should be copied to overwrite the installed Launcher folder.

Launcher for older Windows OS versions (Win7, Win8, etc): https://elderscrolls-a.akamaihd.net/products/CNL_Launcher/Launcher_6.2.44.w7.250723.zip
All other Windows OS: https://elderscrolls-a.akamaihd.net/products/CNL_Launcher/Launcher_6.2.44.m250723.zip

The only difference between these two launchers is the launcher self-update is completely disabled in the win7 version, so it will never update to a recent version. This could be useful for those on older Windows versions and for those who had DLL issues.

The other version (m250723) uses a different self-update folder in your TEMP directory. This launcher will not update itself until a new launcher version is released, or the Bethesda.net_Launcher.json file is deleted.

I appreciate the update as a hobby developer of TES5Edit, FO4Edit, EsoUI mods, and father of 5 I'm not able to spend any money on a new system. The ability to update to Windows 10 has expired and I have a 1st gen processor so I cannot update to Windows 11 because that requires a minimum of an 8th gen processor.

Please let whomever put the time into this that it is appreciated.

Yeah installing this on top of my existing launcher folder has made it entirely functional again on Windows 7.

The launcher files has helped tremendously in getting the game to run again!

I might badmouth the update and optimization process that happens with any major patch, but this makes up for those times! thank you again for the solution.

I had the launcher update issue.

Thanks for the link to update manually, it worked for me (W11 24H2).

Nevertheless, this launcher version has still the 'unable to load skin' bug. Which seems to occurs because of the combination Intel Core i9 + W11 24H2.

Please try to do something. I have several games with launchers, none of them have this issue.

Running W7, tried this launcher, got error :

Failed to download the applications library, Please verify network connection.

Did you extract the files to your existing launcher folder?

I had this error when simply extracting it and attempting to run,
And also seperately when I had deleted my Program Data folder within the launcher (because someone had suggested that could help fix launcher long ago). When I restored it, it worked fine and has worked fine since.

The shcore.dll error doesn't appear to be obstructive, as my client still runs despite having that in the logs.

Actually, I did not, I renamed the original folder to 'LauncherOLD' as a backup precaution and then extracted what was in the package to a new 'Launcher' folder.

Turns out that the package is not a complete folder as I expected, but only a selected number of changed files. Copying the content of my old backupped launcher and not overwriting files already in there fixed this.

Now it is working as intended. Thank you for pointing me in the right direction.

Hello,

Click on the ZIP folder in your downloads and click "extract."

Copy the new Launcher folder with CTRL + C.

Go to your "Zenimax" game folder; you'll see Launcher, Logs, selfupdate, TESO, uninstall.

Click in the space on this page and click "paste."

The system will find "Launcher" and ask if you want to merge it; say yes.

The system will ask you if you want to replace certain folders; say yes.

And that's it.

PS, make a copy of your old Launcher folder before doing this and change its name to OLD LAUNCHER, for example. Place it in a backup folder dedicated to TESO, for example; it might be useful.

When everything is in order, you can delete the Old TESO folder, but I recommend keeping a copy of your repaired launcher in your beautiful backup folder; you can also put anything you want there, such as your LIVE addon folder, etc.

but my pc is like 12 years old so i can't really update to win11

I replaced the launcher folder, but no improvement at all.
Loading my characters takes more then 5 minutes!!!! And many times trown out because there was a time out.
Not caused by my PC (Win10) or internet!!!

ALL my friends in ESO are complaining about this.
It is since the last big update.

Going to look for another game. This is terrible.

After 3rd attempt finally managed to get forum access......

Spent better part of a week with ESO support, run all sorts of tests required by them... result zilch.... still cant access ESO despite all the fixes and workarounds posted here and on Steam....

ESO support still hasnt acknowledged that it is a fault of their last steam launcher update. On certain systems it seems that internet access is blocked for certain components of the launcher.... nothing to do with with WIN firewall or anti-virus - all tested and passed....

Really a disgrace for a game developer that apparently is owned by Microsoft since 2021.....

Ok.... well done.... pity it had to come to this....So now that is sorted, all thats left is to sort out the font problem....for example here in the browser my fonts are perfect, as with my other online games, and everywhere else yet in the game I cant read the UI fonts in for example a guild sellers list, or anyrthing else on the screen .. name plates, the skill lists, the equipped list , the quest journal etc....it was all fine before the update....please can anyone help... I have tried a specific addon for fonts I found online but has made no difference so Ive removed it again....the writing is all fuzzy and the letters blend into each other... I would appreciate feedback...
