Put penalty on ppl staying in spawn place for battlegrounds

Too often ppl are so afraid of dieing in bg that they just stick on spawn points and try to participate by fireing with their staff down. This is very bad for their team mates on multiple levels:
* team damage is reduced
* team heal is reduced
* mutual buffing is reduced
* enemy fire is more concentrated on folks on ground floor.

All these four points stack up with a positive feedback thus adding negative effects to the team.

    I personally only see this really happening when there's a disbalance between the groups and one of the groups starts to (repeatedly) kill players at or near the base.

    Do you see this regularly in other scenario's?

    So 80% of 4v4 matches ? We don't need other scenarios, this already happens in almost every match (though I don't play 8v8, so I don't know if it's as bad there)

    In 4v4 at least, the timer should be like 10-15 seconds instead of the 2 minutes we have now

    I was asking because I'm not sure if kicking a man while he's down (by penalizing) is the best way to deal with this.

    If this happens in 80% of the matches, is the problem that people stay in their base or is the problem maybe that this current form of bg's is just enlarging balance problems?

    Maybe timer can be shorter sure, I sometimes also think why are they still up there instead of helping.
    Though often it is a case where one team is stomping so hard and drives back all the way to spawn.
    If its a total stomp I wouldn't bother either.

    I would get punished to jump down, punished for staying in spawn, might as well just leave the BG and get punished for leaving and be done with it.

    If they could balance the match somehow, that would resolve a good % of these cases from happening.
    Only then, improvements like a shorter timer or other ways of getting people down would be effective.

    Players stay at at the spawn, due to bad game design. If they are forced to leave, they will just quit the match. No one enjoys being farmed.

    The new BGs were fresh for a little while, but not for long. The system cannot balance most games and the maps usually keeps all the players stacked together.

    There are very few players, specially compared to Cyro, that play regular BGs. Good luck trying to have fun there.

    Bgs were decimated. They are a shell of what they once were. This is likely not going to change. Either play them for the rewards and the extremely rare good game or dont play them at all.

    It's just that the two team format doesn't work in ESO as it currently is. If there is even a slight imbalance, it turns into a steam roll every time. I agree with the above poster that roughly 80-90% of the BGs I have played since the change have been steamrolls where one team ends up just spawn camping the other team, which isn't fun from either end.

    When there was 3 teams, there was always a 3rd party to remove the focus from the weaker team, as well as to contest the objectives in other locations. It's clear now that this dynamic really helped the BG environment.

    I wish they'd go back to the 3 team format, honestly. But zenimax refuses to ever admit that they're wrong when it comes to things they've spent time developing, so I'm guessing we'll be stuck with these indefinitely.

    When the game starts nobody stays in the spawn. Its only after the team begins to realize jumping down is pointless because the game is already over with twelve minutes left to go and don't feel like going 0-20 or getting a deserter penalty. People stay in spawn when there's six OP sweats waiting for them while two people run to every flag and they object to getting farmed.

    I've been on both sides, stuck on spawn on a match cuz ill be dmnd if I give you the satisfaction of killing me over and over and I've been on the team on the ground just obliterating the other guys. I feel like staying in the spawn when there is literally no hope of winning is a valid option.

    This spawn-stuckness isn't unique to two team bg's but it is MUCH more common now then it ever was with three team. I'm starting to think it will be a solid year before we get a "three team Battleground weekend" like they said wed get. If we ever get one at all.

    If you prefer to stick in spawn place for all the understandable reasons you cite why not just leave the match?

    It would limit your time lost and could help the other team members in such that a replacement could be found.

    Or you could just play and die 15 times considering that death has no penalty in bg.
