Ground AOE abilities are not just for the ground.

Ground AOE skills should actually be for the ground. Not the wall, not the ceiling above the ground, not the air. The ground.
Here's and example: I was chasing a wardensorcblade who placed a charm on the ground behind them. I used a Feral Pounce to gap close while never touching the AOE. I get charmed after I land several meters outside of the charm.
Why are ground AOE skills actually spheres and not circles on the ground?

There are several answers but the shortest is: It's orders of magnitude easier to program and faster for the computer to process.

EDIT: I suppose it could be simplified by taking the geometric mean of the center point on the ground and then when a collision is detected, checking the height above it to see if the target was within the threshold that would count as 'on the ground'. It wouldn't be that much work - but then again with the server struggling as is, there's really no room to be adding extra workload on the processors.
