Ignore function broken? (was: unable to ignore gold seller in game)

This afternoon I noticed an account advertising a website that sells gold and crowns in zone chat. When I try to add them to my ignore list, nothing happens. To be sure it isn't because my ignore list is already full, I deleted an account from my friends list for someone who hasn't been on in over 5 years, as well as 3 accounts from my ignore list, but despite ensuring that I have room nothing happens when I right-click on the gold seller and try to ignore them. I'm thinking this might be a new tactic for trying to keep players from being able to ignore their advertisements for the gold-and-crowns-selling website.

Not being a smarty pants, but, just literally ignore them. It's easy. If I see something in chat I don't care about, I move on. Gold sellers do too. Don't let it get to you.

Did you try right click -> report instead of right click -> ignore? That should also add them to the ignore list.

I always report them and they automatically get added to my ignore list. I doubt they can do anything to prevent you from ignoring them but can't say for absolute sure.

Unfortunately, gold sellers can be aggressive about spamming zone chat with their ads. I don't read their spam-- I ignore it, as you helpfully suggested-- but when they are spamming zone chat it makes it difficult to see anything that legitimate players are posting, so the only alternative can be to turn off zone chat completely, which I'd rather not do.
Did you try right click -> report instead of right click -> ignore? That should also add them to the ignore list.

That was my first action. I noticed that the message about them being added to my ignore list didn't pop up in the chat box afterward. When I saw their spam again later-- I scrolled up to see the first message to verify that the name was the same-- I tried ignoring the player but it isn't working-- the message won't pop up in the chat box and the name isn't getting added to my ignore list.

I'm also not sure whether they can do anything to prevent players from ignoring them, but I wanted to bring the issue to the dev's attention so they can investigate to see what's going on. I'm not asking anyone (devs or players) for assistance in ignoring the gold seller, because as the first responder so helpfully suggested, I just ignore them, the same way I just ignore players who think it's cute to talk politics or religion or to make "funny" lewd or racist "jokes" in zone chat. However, if the gold sellers have somehow figured out a way to prevent players from being able to ignore their spam, it seems like something the devs might want to investigate.

Okay, so I saw another post from the same gold seller and tried again with the same results.

I decided to try ignoring a random player who posted a guild advertisement and got the same results-- no message in the chat box, and nothing added to my ignore list.

I even tried manually adding the name to my ignore list, but that didn't work, either.

So it looks like it might be the ignore feature as a whole.

Could someone try ignoring a random player to see if it works for them?

I wonder if the "ignore" list is stored client- rather than server-side? If so, this could be another casualty of the issue causing filter preferences to not be saved...

    Edit: a word

I was on PCEU. I haven’t tried it on PCNA yet, and I’ve unplugged my modem, TVs, and computers because we’re having a lightning storm, but I’ll try PCNA later tonight.

Regarding filter preferences, I saw posts from players saying that crafting station settings weren’t being saved, but I hadn’t noticed an issue with that myself.

I’m not sure how client-side would work, as it carries over from one PC or laptop to another so that would suggest that it’s server side.

I don't have players on PCEU so I can't test it there, but I tried it on PCNA and it worked fine for me.

Same for me. The ignore function worked for me on PCNA.

    Hello.

Are you sure your ignore list is not full? It can only hold 100 entries.

Juat wantto point out that the Friends and Ignore lists are two separate lists. Removing a name off the friends liat does not add room on the ignore list, and vice versa. You need to remove a name from the list you want to add to.

As I mentioned, I removed 3 names from my ignored list, but still could not add anyone else to the ignore list afterward. I tried adding both the gold seller and a player guild advertiser, but neither could be added.

I tried it on PCNA and it's working there, but haven't tried again on PCEU. I don't know why it would work on one server but not the other, but I'll try again tomorrow.

Could mean it is actually a bug with removal from the ignore list, rather than addition. You removed three, but it remained full?

I can't even imagine having a full ignore list. Mine is generally empty. The rare time i need to ignore someone, it probably gets removed the next day. I even remove gold sellers when they're automatically added after a report because their ads don't actually cause me any harm. Nothing anyone says does, unless they have a point, and then I must consider it. It's just a tool for repetitive spammers and to end a conversation when someone won't let something go.

Try clearing your list and see what happens!

I actually reported a gold seller on two accounts last night because he was everywhere!!

I immediately noticed they were not automatically added to my ignore list on either account.

I tried adding manually by several actions and double checked my ignore list wasn't full, still no success.

This was PC-EU, it does seem to be broken atm, I will try ignore a normal player when I log in later.🙂

@ZOS_Kevin could you get the team to check this out, these adverts are relentless!

I am out of ignore slots and it seems that reporting gold sellers does nothing. I stopped doing reporting them.

I get a confirmation of report email and a second mail confirming the reported account was infact actioned for every report of those "particular" Gold Sellers I make! :)

Also in regards to my earlier post I have checked one account and after removing a good number of my ignored players, I was able to ignore a random player, haven't seen a gold seller yet today. :D

My ignore list is empty. If I ignore someone for any reason I always remove them in a day or so because I rarely run into the same player again.

As far as gold sellers, I report every one I see, then remove them off my ignore list because l always get an email in a day or so saying there was action taken against them.

I was able to add someone to my ignore list on PCEU today, so whatever the issue was, it seems to be resolved.

By the way, I counted the entries in my ignore list and there were 88 entries after adding a gold seller today. Since I deleted 3 entries yesterday, that means I had 90 entries at the time I was experiencing the issue, so it wasn’t caused by having an already-full list.
