Could we get one self-made "title" for our toons?

I often run as Argonian and they get Names in their tribe language. I would like to give the translation to Nirnian in the shape of an individualized title. Could we implement this?

I think it would be a nice addition.

Obviously it would need some restrictions, two I can think of are:
    1) The same rules that already govern account, character and guild names to stop it being used for offensive messages.
    2) Some way to tell it apart from pre-made titles so players can't use it to fake hard to get titles (which are often used for things like proving you know how to do trial achievements). That could be as simple as putting it in a different place or a different colour/font.

But I don't think either of those would affect legitimate uses, and like I said it would be a nice addition to allow us to personalise our characters a bit more.

I'm not sure it'd be safe giving players the option to make less-acceptable titles from scratch.

I quite like the system in Fallout 76 where you can acquire different prefix and suffix titles and mix them together. I'd love a similar system in ESO.

The purpose of titles is to show an achievement so I don’t think self made titles are appropriate. That isn’t even considering all of the creative ways people will find to be inappropriate. Many games used to allow players to create custom emblems and almost all of those are gone now due to players intentionally being offensive or violating TOS.

That is really sad. I fear you may have a point here. How often miserable ppl do things that end up reducing freedom and fun for all!?!

At the same time I think they managed to have ppl select non-offensive names and same technique could apply to customized titles (that of course should not simulate achievements. I think giving customized titles a different color that cannot be influenced by players is a good way to avoid such).

On PS at least I think you can type in any title as long as you haven’t selected one previously. At least you could in the past.

I can’t check anymore since all my characters have titles linked to achievements now.

This would be a great idea. Add to the Crown Store an option for "Title" and if you wanted to change it, pay another Crown Store fee- just like a name change token. I'm not being sarcastic, I'm being serious. ZOS needs money to keep the game going, and this would be something else they could add for additional revenue.

I agree with this. Additionally, even without inappropriate titles, I don't really want to be faced with a sea of self-proclaimed "High Kinlady of Alinor" or "Duchess of Stormhaven" or whatever. Earned titles are good.

One thing we could ask for are more lore-friendly titles for roleplaying like for the OP.

Players can already create their own character and guild names, and have a chat box where they can write whatever they want for everyone else to see (on consoles you can say it out loud too). Which means ZOS already has tools to deal with the inevitable attempts to misuse those options. All they need to do is apply the same restrictions to custom titles.

Also the point of titles for some people is to show off your achievements, others pick ones which fit the character thematically regardless of where it came from. For them self-made titles would be very appropriate. The OP gave one example and for another I'd love to be able to give my Breton warden the title 'Wyress', at the moment the nearest I can get is 'Witch'.

Obviously you'd still have the option to choose a pre-made title to show off whatever achievement it came from, and as I said above I think custom ones should look different so you can't just fake an achievement title you haven't earned, but it would be nice to have the option for everyone to use that space for something meaningful to the player.

Same in Diablo 4. Awesome system. Gives you just enough freedom to make all kinds of funny and creative combos. Doesn't give you enough freedom to make questionable and rule breaking titles. I've spent so much time messing with the titles in both games, I think the system is very much flexible enough. And since somebody mentioned achievements, in those games you do unlock the prefixes and suffixes through different game stuff, including achievements.
