Is there any information on what we can expect from cross-platform

I know it is still only talked about but lately it appears there is some real effort going into making cross-platform possible. I can't help but question what I should be doing now as I play a character on both, that was originally copied over in that brief window after beta.
So basically, I am playing the same character I played at release on both platforms and now I am wondering what will happen to them if we get cross platform. Hopefully nothing? I will just be able to just keep rocking on as usual just on one combined megaserver. On the other hand, maybe this this cross-platform talk is just that talk?

We don't know how long that could take, could be one year or even five years.
And we won't know the details until it actually gets added.
