Subclassing Quest Bugged?

So it seems I cannot complete the subclassing tutorial quest. For some reason the "Subclass a New Skill Line" step won't complete no matter what I do.
I have tried picking another skill line and equipping skills from them a bunch of time but it just won't complete.
I can't even abandon the quest and restart it. Am I just stuck with this quest in the log and not being able to change skill lines without visiting the npc, or am I just missing something?

You have to click on the + next to the Skill line that you want, then it will popup which skill line you want to give up. If this does not work then turn in a ticket.

@madman65 yes, I've already done that and nothing happens.
I have seen this issue being mentioned by other players both here and on reddit, and apparently there isn't a proper fix yet.
I think I am gonna retry to pick a skill line again once I relog and then file a ticket if it doesn't work.

We did patch this yesterday, as @Gabriel_H noted. @Mushroomancer, could you let us know what step of the quest you are on? We can escalate with the team.

@ZOS_Kevin I am stuck at the "Subclass a New Skill Line" step.
I have also opened a ticket, and the operator told me to disable add-ons. I did, restarted the game and tried to reselect a subclass skill line but nothing, the quest is just stuck on that step.
I'm not even sure if it's just bugged or I'm missing something, but comparing what I have done with other videos I've watched it does seem to be a bug.

@ZOS_Kevin It seems the issue was you are supposed to take a skill line you haven't mastered if you have any available. Since I came back very recently after like 4 years, I haven't mastered the Arcanist skill lines yet, so I had to subclass one of them.

To answer your question, you can't abandon this quest for some reason, so yeah, I tried but couldn't.

In the end it seems it was just me not understanding what the quest wanted, although I do think the step could have been worded a bit differently to make it clear you have to take an incomplete skill line.
Also, this extra step seems to be present only for the characters that don't have that incomplete skill line, since on my below 50 arcanist all I had to do was subclass any other skill line.

A bug in itself. I agree the wording isn't clear, so I'm going to be a tad patronizing and ask if you have done this.

1. Take quest
2. Talk to sub-class npc
3. Select the squiggly ribbon icon on the skills panel next to the line you want then If it is there click confirm at the bottom
4. Talk to sub-class npc again
5. Select the + icon on the skills panel next to the line selected in step 3
6. Click the skill line you want to replace that appears in the popup
7. Click confirm on the popup then If it is there click confirm at the bottom
8. Talk to sub-class npc again

Yes, I have done exactly this and it works, that is what I said in the last reply.
Also, apparently, not being able to abandon the quest isn't a bug, it's by design. I guess they were worried that by abandoning the quest either something would break or people would exploit the free respec.

So in the end, it's not a bug, it's just a combination of me being a *** and the quest step being kinda vague.

This is also happening to me today. I will try again tomorrow, but I'm on console so I don't have any addons. I followed a video, and did exactly what they did, but it's not finishing the quest properly so I am stuck at adding skills for 1500 gold. Which I did try, but that still didn't work. So I have used 4 skill points, and hitting Confirm. Just not finishing the quest.

I'm stuck on this one, too. PSNA.

Just got the update today. My fully lvl NB has 1 Templar skill line (40) and 1 Warden skill line (winter line, 26)

I've spent probably 10k + gold swapping skill lines trying to get the quest to finish. So I started to assume I have to fully lvl a subclassed skill line. Is this not the case? My Templar skill line is almost 50, guess I'll see tomorrow.

Through the entirety of all my toons I have maxed all class skill lines except the Warden Animal line, is this what this quest is about? We are to select and subclass a skill line we haven't maxed out yet? I thought we could ONLY subclass skill lines that had been FULLY lvl on that class of toon?

I fixed mine!! I logged into EVERY SINGLE character I have, I was checking to make sure I didn’t accidentally take the quest on another character first (I had not). Just the act of logging all of them in fixed it.

I have this same problem since the update. For the first 3 characters I was able to complete the quest without any problems, but on the 4th I was stuck in the "subclass a new skill line" ste, even though I replaced 2 skill lines and was leveling them up.
Because of this I didn't try the quest on other toons until when the fix was applied, but then again, the other char I tried also couldn't complete the quest (and that other one too).
I already had level 50 in all skill lines for all classes, except for my arcanist, whose skill lines are still level 49.

@ellmarie @RebornV3x, if you have any class you haven't hit lv 50 with, try picking one of their skill lines to subclass and confirm after adding it (you can always switch it back after adding it).

@rnklippel just add one of the arcanist skill lines to your subclass skill lines. That's exactly what I did, since my arcanist was below 50 as well.

I think the logic they were following with this quest is that they wanted to show you the difference between subclassing a "mastered" skill line, where you don't need to "lock it in", and a non mastered skill line, where that's the case.

I submitted a ticket. I went to my armory to fix myself back up, but Bahtra at-Hunding just keeps asking to learn a new discipline. I've already spent points and coin. I already have every class over level 50. Not sure how to fix it. This is why I used my NB thankfully and not a majorly played character.

The problem is at least for me on Xbox Series X (EU & NA) was that when i picked a skill line that i was already over 50 in it and confirmed which one i wanted to replace it simply didn't register as complete although it was replaced, i had to pay 1500 gold to do it again. I then figured out if i picked a skill line which i didn't yet reach 50 which was the case for Arcanist lines, this time it registered and i completed the quest. But in total i wasted 10k over two characters to find this out.

Yes, exactly this. And also what Mushroommancer told me to also try. Thing is, I think I have every classes abilities to 50. The only one I MAY not have is Green Balance on the Warden. I'm going to try that.

Honestly I will say the design of this quest is absolutely terrible.

I really don’t understand why they just simply delete all the classes, introduce a pool of 21 skill lines for people to choose from (all the class skill lines currently), choose 3 and create a tooon. Simple.

Identify is dead anyway with this ( I dislike subclassing for this for sure) - so point to keep it like this for identity sake is moot.

You have to select a sub-class skill line that you never leveled to 50. I initially selected 2 skill lines that were 50 on another character. Once I selected a skill line that was not 50 on any character on my account, it completed the quest.

Thanks you for the advice I had every skill line at level 50 on my alts except for 1 apparently and switching to that one fixed it an then I switched back.

@ZOS_Kevin ... Just have the dev team make the quest so it can be abandoned. Customer support will than them.

I did my subclass thing and have a subclass, but the quest is still active and NOW if I want to proceed in the quest, I have to pay 1500 gold. Meanwhile, it is still in my quest log and I can't get rid of it. I don't want to pay 1500 in an attempt to clear the quest from my log and then undo it. I won't get my 1500 gold back. (250621-001169)

I question whether the tutorial quest to "unlock" this is even a wise idea, since it forces players into the subclassing when they may only be interested in unlocking it for use in the future. Providing a Scroll of Undo is a workaround for a quest idea that just isn't working.

Glad the bug is fixed, but it seems not for me.
Tried this today and picked two new skill lines I haven’t levelled with subclassing yet, but the quest won’t complete.
Probably spent over 20k gold to try again and again with different skill lines and combinations.

If that is the case then I just don’t understand the quest.
So "Subclass a New Skill Line" means a skill line none of your pure-class characters has ever levelled to 50? Why is this worded so ambiguously? "New Skill Line" could mean anything. The first time you use any skill line from another class on a specific character it is a new skill line for that character.
And what about long-term players who have already levelled all skill lines to 50?

From what I can tell, this bug stems from the fact that the "Subclass" icon will not appear for a character if the skill line has been leveled to 50 on another character, it simply defaults to the + icon for "add skill line"

This is a character who hasn't touched subclassing:

As you can see all of the level 50 skill lines, leveled on another character, simply have the + icon rather than subclass. If I select any of these skill lines, the quest will simply loop forever and not complete. Selecting a skill line that isn't leveled will complete the quest appropriately.

I'd imagine it's possible for this quest to be completely unfinishable if someone has leveled all skill lines to 50 on a single character.
