None of the flying pets ever land, which is disappointing. It makes them seem both unrealistic and incomplete.
I'm fairly sure we see birds in the world take off and land, so the animations do exist, it would be great to see it applied to pets as well.

For this reason, I like magical flying pets that just kind of dart around. There is no frame of reference to how they should act, so they feel more natural.
With eagles, owls, any kind of bird really, we have a frame of reference so the feel out of place.
The Bee works great as a flying pet. The moths/flies/butterflies (not sure what insect they are) also works well. But birds just feel wrong.
