You don't see the animation because the second proc of Shalks doesn't have an animation.

With the first proc of damage, the Warden pulses blue/green, so you know you should be ready to block. The second (more powerful) proc has no such indicator. That makes it impossible to know if the Warden has a burst loaded up or not.
