For people that don’t like the new UI look that are on PC, I have uploaded a addon to GitHub to revert the changes. Due to the size it will not be published to esoui; that is also probably a reason the devs did not have an option to revert in the game since the goal was to trim file sizes. Unzipped folder size is roughly 1.2gigs.

    https://github.com/DakJaniels/Pre101046UI/releases/tag/v2

Where do we install it or where do we put it etc, can you advise on installation instructions, is it like an add on or need to go into another location. Please advise, thanks.

Extract the "Pre101046UI" folder into Documents\Elder Scrolls Online\live\AddOns. If done correctly, then you should see the add-on the next time you load the game (or use /reloadui if you were already in-game) in the ADD-ONS menu. Make sure that it is ticked for it to work.

I don't find it in ADD-ONS menu. I did everything as instructed.

Double check that you didn't create a sub folder when extracting..

I found the new UI to be simplistic (not just simple), flat, childlike, and ugly. Childlike as in something a very small child might draw or be attracted to because it lacks nuance. It was almost as if the game had, in this instance, reverted to 2000. Retro is nice sometimes; a game-wide change in a basic visual function is not. Especially if it was meant to "freshen" the look.

On one hand, I can appreciate that for some, the added icon size and 'glow' might be helpful visually. On the other hand, it is horribly executed if that was the intent.

NO offense meant towards anyone who likes the UI change! To each their own.

Khajiit uses Perfect Pixel and AUI for his UI needs, and so does not have to deal with many of the issues folks are bringing up in this thread, but the one issues he finds intolerable is the "look mommy I'm using the fat crayons" black border around all the icons.

How does making the UI look like it came straight from a 16 bit console from the 90s "modernize" the look of ESO?

So, I just played on a 14-inch Android tablet using GeForce Now. There the new UI doesn't look so bad anymore. Especially the selected icons are now more clearly highlighted by the blue glow. The attribute bars don't really make any difference to the old design on such a small screen.

But on a 4K monitor, it's just terrible...
...oh, wait, could it be that the designers, reviewers, and testers were only allowed to work on small tablets? :-p

Really? Emphasis on the content, when the content is overwhelmed by big black intrusive squares? And somehow all font is less visible and hard to read now. The new UI is Win10 level of dullness. Interestingly - Win11 is less crude again. So... I would say the new UI is not modern, quite opposite - it's more dated than the old one. Not to mention it just looks cheap and unprofessional.

There are no dependencies and there is not an in-game addons settings menu entry.

I hate all of it but this is the worst part. Why are the borders so huge in general? Isn't this game supposed to be in a fantasy setting, this is just so... boring and mundane. It's like how "modern" buildings are just gray rectangles, and really takes away from the fantastical nature of the rest of the game.

Maybe your path is actually set to OneDrive?

This happened to me once, I was shocked to discover my computer had secretly been taken over by OneDrive and addons were in there. This was a few years ago. And recently, OneDrive tried to take over my computer again with a misleading message from Microsoft warning me about the possibility of ransom and encouraging me to hit a button to simply back everything up to OneDrive. Well, it wasn’t simply a backup, it was OneDrive trying to take over my computer completely again, and it caused a lot of disruption when I realized what was happening because it tried to move everything back to OneDrive off of my computer and in the process, a lot of my files disappeared for good, including my addons. I had to reinstall all my add-ons from scratch.

More to the subject, what I did when I unzipped the folder was first unzip it to my desktop, and then I moved the correct unzipped folder into my addons folder so everything would be in the right place and everything worked fine. Thank you so much for this UI addon, it’s a lifesaver!

On the whole, it's OK. There's less visual clutter (clean lines, sharp angles, solid colors, etc.), making it somewhat easier on the eyes, but there are a few bits that I find distracting. For example, the black box around the companion/group health bars would work a bit better if it were transparent rather than solid or at least done in a less contrasty color.
I'm fresh out of outrage, but I could muster up some amused annoyance if required.

The new UI does not fit with the rest of the ESO aesthetic. I find it visually distracting and it pulls me out of the game in the same way that it would if ZOS replaced all the ESO music with generic EBM or had NPC's speak in current slang.

I also find it to be hideous in a modern, generic UI kind of way.

Someone commented that it's basically the same as what the UI has looked like on consoles, for that, console players have my sympathies.

Can someone at ZOS explain why they felt it necessary to change this?

    edited to add
In a few now closed threads there were some questions about the impact of Modding the UI leading to possible bans.

This should not be the case but it would be good to get solid confirmation from ZOS in an active thread (if it's in this one I missed it) @ZOS_Kevin.

also some input on why ZOS felt this update was needed would be appreciated

Feels extremely flat, and I'm not sure what the goal was since it doesn't improve much layout or contextual information.

The contrast could be slightly better for some players I guess, but I don't see how it improves much else. The only real visual struggles I've ever had are during many overlapping combat effects.
