How Do I Abandon The Subclassing Quest "A Study In Discipline"?

I logged in early this morning to take a look at the new subclassing quest - I wanted to see what exactly it delivers. I foolishly thought that it would ADD a fourth skill line to my character. Instead, what subclassing does is it REPLACES one existing skill line with that from another class. I did not know this is how subclassing was going to work. No worries. Since this is NOT something that I am interested in I have decided that I will NOT be taking part in subclassing on my main character. Unfortunately, there is no way to abandon this quest and get it off my logbook.

Why?

How do I remove the subclassing quest "A Study In Discipline" from my character's logbook? Why isn't it just like every other quest in the game that has an X-Abandon Quest option?

Please, either let me abandon this quest or increase the quest limit from 25 to at least 30 for our logbook.

Danke.

Just complete the dialogue to end the quest and respec back using the scroll rewarded.

It's a tutorial quest you do it once on your account(edit my mistake seems like you need to do it on every character, could have sworn they said you would only need to it once). 5 minutes long if you read the dialogue, it explains how sub classing works, lets you pick one or two subclass skill lines for free to apply in place of one or two of your own, afterwards its 1500 gold a time to choose others.

Just do the quest, switch back to your current build in your armoury and move on if your not interested in the system yet.

    It is a known issue:
Issue: The subclassing quest currently cannot be abandoned. The upside is the quest itself is pretty short, so this should not cause a major disturbance in your quest log.
Current State: This is a known issue and the team is working on a fix for a later date.

I wish the Scribing quest saga was like this. Small quests. "One and done," yes?

Thank you for this information. I guess I will have to keep this quest in log until they fix it. Now I have to either complete two quests or abandon one to make room in my logbook. Which sucks. [snip]

ZOS walked that back and has now said it's working as intended. You have to finish the subclass quest then use the free respec scroll to undo what you just did.

It appears that one unfortunately cannot abandon this quest and it's going to stay this way. Just follow the workaround I suppose.

Yeah, you can restore a previous armory build from before you subclassed, that works too.

(EDIT: I haven't tried yet but afaik you can also save multiple different subclassed builds in the armory and switch between them).

The subclassing quest should simply be: "Do you want to use other class's abilities? Yes, here they are. Choose wisely!"

We shouldn't have to change our builds just to activate subclassing.

The fact you do not have any dialogue to refuse and instead to just go along with it is bad game design.

Technically, it's simple enough to finish the quest and then Armory right back to what we're supposed to be. Annoying, but not problematic.

But this does reveal something about the disconnect between the devs and the playerbase. Ever since Subclassing was announced (heck, ever since it was leaked), it was contorversial. Some were happy that you could build your characters more freely, and some didn't like that that would obviously lead to major balance issues. And on PTS, the feedback thread went back and forth on that with no dev input.

What we do know of the devs is that they think it's the best thing ever... but we also know that the devs don't realize that 1) only some of the classes (less than half of them!) have distinct splits between tank/damage/heal lines, and 2) even some of their 'for fun' builds like the "summoner" are quite literally unplayable due to the pet cap, and 3) they don't understand the players. I've talked to some StreamTeam people who got to test it early, and they said that one of the biggest pieces of feedback they gave the devs was "the game shouldn't punish people for choosing not to Subclass" and the devs' response was essentially "wait, people willingly wouldn't want to?"

It really feels like this was designed as it is because the devs can't imagine that anyone would look at Subclassing and say "actually, I prefer the way my character plays now." They can't picture a single circumstance where someone would say "I planned my character as a fire-breathing, rock-stomping, dragon-hearted hero so I want to keep my DK as a full DK." Instead, they only see that you are given the opportunity to take other lines and get a lot of extra power and are choosing not to take it.

Imagine an RPG based on a series where people go hard on character creation, where the devs can't fathom that people may... have planned their characters around their Class and aren't just throwing skill lines around...

Yes, ten years of investment in some of our characters. As I stated in another thread, we’ve had to deal with hybridization and scribing that changed our characters that do end game content. Subclassing was the straw that broke the proverbial camel’s back for me. I didn’t like making the other changes and this is too much. I’ll be as effective as a hobbled horse in hard content now so I guess it’s mostly crafting and housing for me now. I’m going to try to keep doing Cyrodiil PvP but it’s pretty rough now.

I could make a new character to subclass to avoid that but the essence of the game has just been thrown in the garbage bin after all this time. Ten years of learning how to play a class and now it’s just pick three skills from a grab bag.

I actually now have the problem on a side character where the quest won't complete. I go talk to the woman, click the only option, which is to choose my new subclass, and I go in, choose my subclass (Daedric summoning to Dawn's Wrath, and Dark Magic to Earthen Heart) charges me the gold, and the quest just stays incomplete.

Yes that's happening to me too. I even made sure to login to each toon before starting the quest. Still stuck. It just won't finish. And don't think trying it on another toon will make a differance once it's wedged it's wedged for the entire account on that server.

It's free in the crown store. Just buy it, plop it down in your free inn room, and use it.
