Sealed Writ exp scaled for low-cp characters (was "Double exp seems to not be being applied...")

Has anyone noticed the exp reward for turning in sealed writs does not seem to be being applied? Perhaps khajiit is losing his one marble.

EDIT: Apparently for cp characters below cp440 or thereabouts, it seems the sealed master writ cp/experience reward is capped at half the experience required to gain a cp. This has undoubtedly always been the case, but khajiit has never seen it mentioned before, and only has experienced it recently while leveling a 2nd account.

Hrm. Today khajiit learned the cp award for turning in sealed writs increases as cp increases. This one has not had a sub-300 cp character in 8 years, so this was quite surprising.

khajiit was leveling up his second account (all fishy-cats and one khajiit with a skin condition) with alchemy, enchant and provisioning writs. Started at cp 130, and by the time the tally hit 300, the per-writ exp changed from 33k to 55k, which is closer to what this one expected, from his most recent times leveling cp over the past year, getting to cp3600 on main account.

XP gain changes with level, not CP. A level 50 CP 3600 character earns the same XP as a level 50 CP 10 character. A level 10 character earns much less XP than a level 50 character, even if those characters have access to the same amount of CP.

Alchemy, enchanting, and provisioning writs used to give lower XP than durable master writs, but now they all give the same.

At level 50, with no bonuses, master writs of any type should award 7485 * 2.25 = 16,841 xp. (The 7485 is the base quest reward xp at Level 50, and 2.25 is the multiplier for a “very hard” quest.) With +100% XP from the event, you would get your 33k. What you’re seeing there is the event bonus working as expected.

To get 55k you have added some major bonus, as that is about 3.25x the base value, or about +125% more xp on top of the +100% event bonus. Partial enlightenment would account for that, if it ran out on that 55k writ. (Enlightenment multiplies your total xp gain by 4x. It is not an additive bonus. But when it runs out, it applies to only part of the total xp gained for that action.)

Listing out your other sources of xp bonuses would help determine what’s going on with more confidence.

Ok, first of all, Khajiit is not new to this process

, with a fully leveled main account (all weapons and class skills) on 20 characters at cp3600. Much of this was accomplished via sealed writs being - currently this one's stockpile of vouchers is just over 190k. So this one is not new to the process or the results

. It has been 8 years, however, since this one was cp 130.

The episode that motivated this thread originally was on a 2nd account, starting at cp 130 and ending at cp 308, turning in 350 sealed AEP writs with eso+ and a 150% scroll active. The first writs that were turned in gave approx 33k exp, the final writs gave slightly over 55k, all while the same 150 scroll was active. Khajiit witnessed the cp for the turn in change slightly from cp to cp near the end of the run, in fact. This is in contrast to the approx 65k exp khajiit was used to getting doing writs the past few years whenever he would do them on his main account, during 2x exp events with mythic amborsia in effect, at > cp 2k.

With a 100% XP event boost, no enlightement, and a 150% scroll on top of that, master writs give somewhere around 60-90k per writ (exact number I'm not sure, as I do them en masse, and never turn juat one in to look.)

Did some master writs today(~40), and they give the same exp as during other double exp events. So the bonus double exp is working(PC EU).

If you have a 150% xp scroll and ESO+ active with the event to get those numbers, the question should be first why you are getting such low xp per writ on the lower CP account and then at what point that diminished value goes away. You should be getting 33.6-7k per writ without the extra 150% and ESO+. With those bonuses you have, you should be getting over 60k per writ (similar to the 65k you mentioned getting on the higher account). Your numbers from the lower account suggest there may still be a cap on quest xp (33k and 55k seem close to 50% of your total xp required to next CP at those values, if I understand the most recent xp requirements correctly), but that would require further testing.

To conclude we get more xp for master writs the higher our CP *without qualification*, you need to show that is true across the board from CP 10 to 3600. (It would also be extremely strange if this were to apply only to master writs.) If it is something more general like a cap to xp based on total value required to next level, you will start getting the full value of the master writ at a certain CP, at which point it stops being the case that master writ xp rewards and CP are per se directly correlated as claimed.

Here's a video that shows proof that cp scales (at least at lower cp levels) with cp level. As the writs are turned in, the cp reward increases slightly each time the character's cp increases.

Seems that Virtus nailed it, at least with regard to the sealed writs - the cp amount awarded seems to correspond to half the required amount for each cp level. The very first writ turned in gave 53,567 at cp 317, while at the end of this session, the character was at cp 352, the cp awarded was 57,489.

EDIT : youtube doesn't seem to like this video, it still is very crappy resolution. If it doesn't clean up, I'll try again or post screen shots.

The screenshots don't show anything. ALSO, is this entire thread about the xp reward per writ (which your video completely fails to show btw, as you turned in multiple writs before checking the cp gain) OR is OP complaining about the xp requirement PER CP?

If it's the latter, that is nothing to complain about, and is fully intended that higher levels cost more XP to level up. Its exactly the same eith 1-50 too.

I am at 3555, and it costs 1.280 mil per cp. So if this is what OP is actually complaining about, I have to question why, as basically every RPG in existence does this.

They most certainly do. Each bit of fly-by text shows the exp or cp given for a single writ to be turned in. Multiple flybys of the same kind of exp (base exp or cp, denoted by prefix icon) correspond to multiple turn-ins. That's how the cp/exp flybys work - individual quest turn-ins always get their own cp flybys, since there is no way to turn in two quests simultaneously.

Since there seems to be some difficulty understanding, khajiit will break it into little pieces for you.

First screenshot shows "53,567" flyby exp - last turn-in of cp317, immediately followed by "53,682" flyby, first turn-in at cp318.

The cp requirements for each cp can be acquired from this google doc found at this link.

To advance from cp317 to cp318 it is required to earn 107,134 cp, while to advance from cp318 to cp319, it is required to earn 107,365. These are both 2x the amounts the writs were awarding at those cp levels.

Second screenshot shows last turn-in, at cp351 and leveling to cp352, of "57,489". This is half the amount required to level up from cp351 to cp352, which is 115,209.

This clearly demonstrates that the cp awards at lower cp levels are scaled, and what they are scaled to.

"completely fails"? The video's intention was to show that the exp per turn-in changes as the cp of the character changes. This is obvious, the turn-in amount increases as the video progresses.

Khajiit had never seen any statement to the effect that the cp awarded per sealed writ turn-in by a cp character was scaled in some way in all the previous documentation on the topic, and, furthermore, had never seen the cp being scaled either, despite having turned in literally 10s of thousands of sealed writs over the past 9 years. Of course, khajiit hasn't been a low enough cp to see this effect (below cp420 or there-abouts) since 2017, and does not remember paying attention to such things back then.

It wasn't.

The 'op' was "complaining" that the writs gave less exp per turn-in when secondary account character was cp 130 than they gave when primary account character was leveling up to cp3600, which this one did some time ago on primary account. At first 'op' thought perhaps the exp bonus was somehow not being applied to the turn-in, but then realized that each turn-in was apparently capped, exp-wise, to be half the required exp/cp to gain a single cp.

This is all -clearly- stated in previous posts in this thread.

That's very nice, congratulations. Khajiit has been cp 3600 for some time - which, incidentally, was also mentioned earlier in this thread - and is acutely aware of cp requirements, and what's more, this one is also very experienced in completing and turning in sealed writs. Here's a screenshot to demonstrate this, of the number of sealed writ vouchers on primary account (after building a fully-outfitted guildhall some years ago).

Now, since it is a screenshot, it may require some further explanation, which is fine, just ask (nicely would be nice but not necessary

). To start with, you can ignore the survey count, that has since gone up by a good amount anyway.
