Sorcerer tutorial question

Hi,
I've played at release and have just returned. Created a new sorcerer to run the tutorial with, the old one with the blind prophet or something. At level 3 I got a pack with some goodies, a piece of armor and a weapon. It was a bow. Is it a bug or are sorcerers supposed to use a bow together with a staff?
