Automatic activation of quests after completion of quest milestone is awkward

To be honest, I really dislike the current way how quests are automatically activated as soon as one milestone of the current active quest is completed.

This is specifically annoying when doing zone quests that contain several milestones that one has to complete one after the other.

I complete a milestone and then automatically a quest that is not part of the current zone quest is activated, and most of the time in a completely different zone. So when I want to pursue one specific zone quest (story quest for that zone) and I have completed one milestone, I have to open the journal, search my zone and activate it again. And again. And again.

That is pretty annoying.

Let alone that in case I forgot that it is not automatically pointing to the follow on milestone I completely run into a completely wrong direction until I realize that I am pursuing the wrong quest marker.

I concur. I would very much prefer it if, after completing a quest, I was left with no quest selected rather than some random unrelated quest.

It seems to auto-advance to the next quest in alphabetical order; if there is no such quest in the current zone, it then jumps to the next zone in the quest list (also in alphabetical order).

As you say, it's very annoying to complete stage 1 of a multi-step quest line, click through the dialogue to start stage 2, and then start following the quest marker on your compass only to realize it's taking you away to a completely different zone. Accepting stage 2 should automatically make it the active quest.

There’s a setting for that. You can set it to automatically activate the most recent quest accepted in Settings -> Interface -> Automatic Quest Tracking.

It always used to automatically activate a quest as you picked it up, but they changed it a few patches ago when that added that setting that it no longer forces every new quest to be automatically tracked. Unfortunately, that means the default state was different than we were used to.

If you want it to go back to where it automatically tracks quests as you pick them up (so like if you have something like this where you complete one quest and pick up another right away and have that one be tracked, then just make sure that setting is "ON" and it'll work like you want.

I'm not annoyed by it at all.

    I never noticed that.

Thanks! Did not know that and will check it out.
