Oh... the Main Storyline

I've done it a few times. It's absolutely brilliant. I think my favourite characters from it are Tharn, Cadwell, The Prophet and... The Vestige.

Yup The Vestige. I really felt that this character was made to feel as an integral part of the storyline, and with an incredible decision to be made as well. So qualifies as a favourite character!

That much said... we are revisiting. And... I think we may be seeing more of Raz too! My curent main has NOT completed the main storyline. Might also be a tad unfinished in Auriden too. Better get cracking as I feel context will add to the fun of the new "sequel". Much to look forward to story wise.

Is it too much too ask for some other favourite characters to come back too? Eveli Sharp-Arrow please. She's so cute and lovable! Would also love for Ember and her crew to be greatly expanded upon. Sai Sahan of course... and... sigh.

Personally I dont care about the story questline, or any quest, I have no interest in playing games on storymode difficulty, doing overland content or questlines in eso is storymode. Wayy too easy, no challenge whatsoever. Im all for following a story driven narrative, but I have to be challenged aswell.

I can relate. I started in the beta, so my character was forged in that tutorial where I explored every rock and puddle. I still have the rags somewhere. The game evolved and, sadly, lost "The Vestige" along the way. This is something I really dislike, when my 10 year old Vestige is called mercenary, proxy, five claw and so on. None of the DLC stories matched the epic feeling of the original main quest. Probably because you had to level up, and do other things between arcs.

I wonder what will happen with the original main story. Will it be available after the next update?

God no, shoving returning characters for no reason was horrible. Them having a valid reason to be there OK, but not just for the sake of it.

Eveli was terrible in gates of oblivion and as a result I don't want to see her again.

I fully agree - misplacing them can really ruin them. though I didn´t like Eveli´s personality pairing her with the Orcs was great. In Gats of Oblivion it was really - why them all the time

I think it´s a thin line and has to be done well balanced - Raz Man Cave und staying at Mum´s story in Elsweyr was hillarious, well done. Some other re-introductions in later chapters felt unfitting. Doing it with too many characters makes it fell more like a class reunion than a new story to tell.
The return of the prince is a really good idea, that was immediately a big like. But I don´t get it why a 400 year old Vanus needed a facelift and a haircut to look somehow like Chrisopher Walken now. Big thumbs up on giving gabrielle a major role in the mages guild. Given her vital role in fighting the planemeld that ´s where she should be.

I surely hope so. I agree totally with your other comments. Yeah... I yearn for The Vestige story telling!

Hmmm the hate for Eveli is manifest. She adds a certain "balance" to the other more intense characters in the game. I love her for that.

But then... we can only have so many light characters who are not cut out to drive a main story arc. Can anyone agree that Eveli in small doses is okay?

Eveli is one of my favorite NPC's! I would absolutely LOVE to see her return!

I love how the character is completely aloof and indifferent to any opinions regarding her personality, demeanor, and overall loopyness (sp?).

However, she's a DLC character with no ties to the main questline so there's really no reason she'd appear in the upcoming main story saga.

I neither hate Eveli nor do I love her. She's a bit hyper, but I prefer that to that stiff Leramil from Necrom. I can't stand her at all and I always want to tell her to pull the stick out of her backside.

Eveli is one of my least favorite ''major'' characters in this game along with Za'ji and Cadwell. I hope to never see Eveli or Za'ji in a major quest ever again. Cadwell I fear is harder to be avoided. I prefer characters like Tharn and Sai in major questlines.

Seems that there is a general dislike for the cheerful/playful characters, whether they are an important NPC in a storyline or a Companion.

I'm generally not a big fan of "cheerful" characters, yes, but my main problem is that they're so over the top in this game. I'd have nothing against a character with a happy-go-lucky attitude, optimistic, maybe even going through the world with a bit of a sense of child-like wonder, but in ESO most characters who are, probably, supposed to be like that, just seem loud, intrusive, and - sorry - often a bit dumb (child-like carefreeness and stupidity are not the same, and that also goes for lack of world experience or even naivity).

And upon second glance, I actually think that Zerith has the attitude I described. He's a stranger to this time and while he might be old, he loves to explore current Tamriel, he's curious and enjoys learning about new things so much. His backstory might be really dark, but he definitely has cheerful and playful character traits he displays when travelling, probably a result of the second chance at life he had been given. And I think he's a popular companion, at least I've read that many players really liked the writing of his storyline.

The original idea of this post was the sidelining of The Vestige.

Let's disreagrd that The Vestige and Eveli might be together in a tree... no, I do not mean wood elf stuff ;)

But even in the socalled main story prolog, we don't really get any reason to invest in The Vestige

I remember has as a young, slightly naive and definitely inexperienced adventurer (or wannabe-adventurer). I wasn't a big fan of her, but she seemed bearable. Let's say character design and dialogues were still much less stereotyped in the base game and first few chapters/dlcs.

Eveli was alright in Orsinium, she was a naive adventurer (from what I remember, it’s been a long time) and sort of was, for lack of a better term, mentored by the Vestige. In the dlc, she was a bossy know-it-all who ordered the Vestige around and we acted mostly brainless. Many characters have returned with surprisingly different personalities the second time around, but hers was the most annoying.

Ever since Orsinium she’s been cheerful, but then I see most Bosmer as more cheerful whereas the Altmer are more haughty overall so IMO it’s a cultural thing. I like Eveli but sometimes that cheerfulness can feel out of place in storylines like Blackwood or Black Drake Villa.

No use for Eveli, no use for the game MQ, no interest in revisiting any of the storyline or characters, and my girls aren't vestiges, they're mercenaries.

As with all games I have chosen to play since 1985, they are played on MY terms. BG1? I made my own party of six, and one of them was named Imoen which nicely avoided the need to have the "real" Imoen along (speaking of Eveli.... *sigh*) and so on over the years. I will never play the Witcher games, because I have no use for male characters (especially as protagonist); ditto Planescape: Torment.

CRPGs/MMORPGs are simply frameworks for my girls. That's all they'll ever be. When the framework no longer fits, I don't play a game any more.

I personally like it when returning characters "know me" and feel it ties the world together nicely. I've actually had interactions like these in the military where I'm somewhere in the world and suddenly I see someone I haven't seen for 7 years in another part of the planet and we pick up like we never lost contact. That being said I felt it was executed less well in the current prologue than in previous story lines. I really don't have a solid reason for this except our characters have done a ton of world saving things since the original story and it feels like the characters don't know about any of it.
