Subclassing has incredible potential.

People panicked when we got Scribing. It turned out fine.
People are worried that there will be a set meta combination, there ALWAYS has been and you have never needed to use it to clear content.
People worrying about class identity, that is up to you. Class choice still matters. Wanna run two Templar skill lines? You gotta pick Templar. What's more, you can now just straight up make your own class. Elementalist, Summoner, Druid, Warlock thing, whatever. Make your own class identity.

I honestly see this as being a major positive addition that can breathe new life into old classes.

At least, let us see how the system plays in-game before we all start panicking.

I am eager for it, it sounds very interesting and fun.

My only question is, how locked in are you?

IE, if I am a sorceror, and decide to take a warden subclass, but then realize, hey, I don't like this subclass, can I remove the warden subclass and choose a different one?

Apparently, yes you can. Skill respec will allow you to change.

There will be a set meta combination, you're right, and it'll probably quite literally be one.

Before hybridization there was at least 2 metas for each class, one for stam and one for mag. Post hybridization there's at least one for every class. Now, probably just one meta period.

You don't have to run meta that's true, but lots of people like to have what's best for what they want to achieve. They will lose options. This may appeal to the questing/overland crowd, but the enemies there die in 2 skills anyway.

Thanks, I had completely forgotten about skill respec *embarrassed*.

I am even more intrigued, and it really does sound fun!

That’s so weird. Last night when I was fighting world bosses in High isle and dragons in Southern Elsewyr they took a lot more than 2 hits to bring down! My build must *really* suck.

every class have 1dps/tank/healer skill line, and now we can parse 120-160+ st dps in 1 did skill line
I very worry necro class set and if we can have 3 dd skill line same time, all thing will be easy like fg1 :'(

My biggest worry is that specific abilities from each class are clearly overtuned compared to others and this has kind of worked because their power budget was balanced into the class. For example, beam from arcanist, jabs for Templar, Bear ultimate or shalks for warden.

One of my biggest criticisms of ZOS over the years is that they spend a terribly little amount of time and effort actually balancing their skills. For subclassing to work, they will need to put some balancing time into this.

Nice that we're getting multiclassing, feels like DnD. But, if we're going this far into it, we don't have classes anymore. It would be better to just make a character like Custom from Oblivion, or free build like Skyrim.

Absolutely. I've hated hybridization for that exact reason for years, but nobody has been listening.
The argument "you don't have to run meta" doesn't really apply for PvP. Because even if you aren't running meta, you are on the receiving end of the meta. Every enemy you face will be running the same class line meta, with maybe one or two differences. And you'll never know what you are fighting either. Just got hit with Streak? Could be a Sorc, could also be a DK. It hurts visual clarity so bad and clarity is extremely important.

Subclassing would have been fine as a concept 11 years ago. The game has been out now for quite a while. I think it's a stupid thing to release it this far into the game's lifespan. People who aren't playing ESO now won't be picking up the game just because Subclassing has finally been added. Yet here we are again, risking to alienate a substantial amount of the remaining players by continuing to homogenize everything.

I'm worried. As much as my brain likes thinking about all the possibilities of combining classes, this will hurt the game in the long run, just as hybridization has.
This Bosmer was tortured to death. There is nothing left to be done.

Historically these kinds of changes have almost always resulted in a less enjoyable gaming experience. The quick slot wheels are a good example. Great idea, but how it was implemented by restricting their use made it a fail.
