How to fix being out of "phase" in groups

Eso has gotten a lot of flack for an issue with grouping where you are part of a group but are "out of phase" with the rest of the group and only appear as an "arrow", or might be able to see your group but not be flagged as part of the group.

I don't know if this is common knowledge by now, but I have been able to remedy this problem if it happens in dungeons by opening the group tab, right clicking on the name of a player in my group and selecting "travel to player".

Hope this helps someone, and if it is indeed the fix to what appears to be a very common and frustrating issue for many players, I hope the devs or community managers can communicate that fix to the player base.

Many of the negative reviews of ESO have focused on this one issue, if the reviewers had known how easy it is to get back into your group I imagine it would have made a huge difference to their reviews and the perception of the game.

Travel to player is not a fix for this as it is because travel to player is broken, it's more like "travel to nearest wayshrine"
Travel to player should be just what it says no matter where the player is.

Well I'm sure many are suffering from this issue also and not knowledgeable of that you can travel to player or logoff login to get to the same instance.

However the bigger issue is the real phasing where you have done all quests in town and it is filled with soldiers caring the wounded. You group with friend who has not done the same quest in that town and well he is seeing all kinds of undead and daedric mobs around causing havoc. You will appear as arrows to each other because you are in different phases, not in different instances.

This only puts you in their instance, not their phase.

Keep in mind this is a mega server. Not everyone on north america is in the same instance of your zone. If they were, you would have thousands of people trying to complete the same quest.

Travel to player, will put you in that persons zone (for example it will remove you from Glenumbra-17 to Glenumbra-6)
It will NOT put you in that person Phase. Only the same instance.

Phasing is when you complete a stage of a quest, and an area of the world will change. A fortress that was once hostile is now controlled by friendly NPC's... Or a once peaceful town is now under attack by werewolves.

If you are on a different stage of a quest as someone in your party, and thus in a different phase using travel to player will NOT put you into your party members phase.
You are simply *** out of luck. There is no way for you to help them, or they to help you.

Please learn the difference between the two before you try to debunk any kind of legitimate feedback to the game.

If you had read my post you would see that I specified that this works in dungeons, and that I have posted it in the dungeon sub-forum.

I hope that someone reads it, finds it useful and is saved some frustration.

I dont think there is a better workaround than login off login on again, but I heard they are working on a easier system

Well using "travel to player" seems to work in dungeons, does it not work for other people?

What do you mean by dungeons? As couple of examples. Aldmeri dominion quest in Auridon where queen goes to dungeon in if I remember correct quest 'Rites of the Queen' if you are done that and your friend needs help there you will not be able to enter the dungeon or travel into the dungeon.

In the quest 'The Veil Falls' in Auridon where you are going to expose Veiled Heritance infiltrating to them and you go to the dungeon in the island. Again same thing if you have done it you will not be able to help your friend in any way.

In Auridon town Mathiisen quest 'The Unveiling' again you will not be able to aid your friend during or in the end if you have done the quest. Ok this is not dungeon but any way, I think you can catch the drift.

I mean the instanced dungeons that you unlock as you level up, for example I think the first one is Banished Cells in Auridon. I am not sure if it works in every case because I have not done every dungeon in the game.

I think the examples you mention are all pve-questing related, so if you are on different quest stages, or have made different choices, there is no way that I know of to get on the same page as your group in those cases unfortunately.

There we go. As mentioned _instanced_ dungeons. You are talking about instances. Relogin and travel to player works on those cases. Phasing is different thing and yes it relates to PvE questing as quests have different phases and if 2 persons are in different phases of the quest they might not see each other.

For the phasing I think ZOS is trying to figure out solution so that people will be able to play more together.

For instancing I had the impression that the game would try to put friends into same instance, however this is not happening or working. Only if they are in group and login different times. Eg. I play with my wife and we have group which usually lasts until the next maintenance. We usually login the same time and end up different instances. So we learned that one logins first and when in game the another one logins so we save the hassle of relogin once in game to be in same instance.

I see- you are saying that I am using the word "phasing" to describe something that is not "phasing".

Well I am not sure what the correct term for it is- but in instanced dungeons you can have the same apparent phenomenon occur as during normal pve phasing problems- ie; appearing invisible except for an arrow etc. When that happens people I have played with -including myself initially- just thought "ah the phasing issue" and just left to find another group- or raged about it, haha.

So l'm sure at least knowing a fix for instanced dungeons will save some frustration.

I am intrigued by your last paragraph though- I didn't know that was a way to get in the same pve phase as your friends. (BTW I think ZENI said they are not implementing the idea of putting people who play the same way (friends/playstyle/guild etc) that they lauded pre-launch automatically in the same phase/instance because it stresses the server too much.)
