Too Many Recipes!

I am being overrun with provisioning recipes! I do daily writs on 7 characters each day which generates 49 boxes. I get at a minimum 10 recipes from these, almost all duplicates that I already know. I hate to just destroy them but most of them sell for very little if they sell at all.

I really don't want to deal with these for the duration of the event, but I won't stop doing my daily writs. Am I the only one frustrated by these?

I just vendor them. Quick cheap coin.

Since my normal daily writ routine for each character always ends with selling unwanted items to my merchant assistant, then depositing coin and anything I'm keeping into my banker assistant before moving on to the next character in line, that routine doesn't change at all and I make a few extra coin.

    Not seeing a downside.

For me it's just the disappointment of seeing a purple item and then realising it's worth nothing. But yeah, sure, it's trivial to just mark as junk and vendor in one lot.

I wish the recipes system got reworked, to be honest. Like 95% of the recipes in the game are completely redundant, they keep adding more of them in various updates but they're also like filler because it's nothing different to what we already have. They could add like a million things to these recipes like reduced fall damage or increased lockpicking chance to make them unique or interesting (or give them some value at least.)

I mean for example I don't know anyone who is making a ton of level 30-35 food for their alts constantly with how quickly you get them leveled yet there's like a gazillion recipes that are for that level range with several carbon copies of effects.

I really don't see the point of giving out so many of the same recipes box after box, day after day, for the duration of the event. Rather then being useful, they are just an annoyance.

Normally I don't complain about free gifts because I appreciate the thought behind them, but these are multiples of the same recipes over and over.

Did you learn those recipes on just your main, or do your alts all know those recipes already?

If it's the former, you should start learning those recipes on your alts, as the chances of getting master writs from crafting writs increases with known recipes.

If it's the latter, you can save them up for future characters, or you can send them to me!

I learn all the basic recipes on my alts but not usually the purple ones. I guess I could learn them on my alts rather than sell or vendor them for a few gold pieces. I just never thought they needed them.

And if I keep getting extras I will definitely keep you in mind! If you are on PCNA that is!

Purple (and gold) recipe knowledge influences the chance of getting provisioning master writs so if you do daily writs with those characters it is beneficial that they 'learn' them.

Rewards have been really disappointing. I get better rewards from my normal crafting dailies and mails from Hireling.

ESO REALLY need to update their reward tables...

I meant its been the same rewards now for years! Every event I end up trashing 80% of the rewards because I either have them already unlocked and/or bound or have no resell value.

Its compounded by the fact that with shared unlocks now there's little need to actually do anything in the game. One and done, while a noble idea destroyed much of the adventure for me.

It's kinda weird how provisioning recipes are the most common drop, they drop like candy... I also have a problem with getting furnishing plans and motifs I already know, it's annoying especially with the motifs since I don't wanna trash those, I don't do trading guilds and I barely know people who want to take them. I have all but 11 motifs fully collected, so it's frustrating to fill up my bank with the stuff I've had for months/years now. At least I've gotten a bunch of missing motif pages from the styles I'm missing stuff from, but the amount of actually useful ones vs useless motifs is massive. I don't wanna learn these on any of my alts as I find it redundant, since they'd need *full* motif chapters to get the bonus, and I'm not gonna waste motifs on that kind thing. I just wish I had more people I could dump these on, who'd actually use them and not sell them. *sigh*

I just dump them into a guild bank, and if a particular recipe fills up 1 stack and starts overflowing into a second stack then I sell the full stack to an NPC merchant for a little bit of gold.

But, yeah, it's a definite pain point, especially since the recipes never seem to get any better despite the crafter being fully leveled in Provisioning.

I use the Addon "Inventory Insight" to instantly tell which one of my alts is missing a motif or recipe/blueprint etc. This way I can tell straight away if I should just vendor sell or bank for an alt.

    That's what I do.

I just dump the 'excess' in the guild bank (and use roomba afterwards to do a bit of housekeeping, shame that items in the guild bank not stacking automatically is still a thing, many years after the exploit '''fix''').

They won't be there for long.

    I respectfully disagree.

If it wasn't for the anniversary event I would get something in the region of 2-3 aetherial dusts per year (doing daily writs on 32 chars and collecting the resulting surveys).

Same goes for other rare crafting materials that are either 'not found in the wild' (like rubyblossom extract) or are incredibly unlikely to be found 'naturally' unless you know the exceedingly rare recipe (like mourning dew).

I also use the 'excess' motif pages on my alts because 'individual' motif knowledge affects the chances of getting 'durable' master writs.

In my case very little 'goes to waste'. Only the event styles end un being trashed and really is no bother to me.

You might find the rewards underwhelming, but the feeling is definitely not universal.

As far as I know, learning the Purple text recipes (and Gold, too) is how you improve your chances of getting a Provisioning Master Writ on that character from doing the Provisioning Daily Writ. So, it might be worth it to learn them while they're plentiful and cheap? I don't know. That's what I'm telling myself on my alts, lol.

Not only are there too many recipes, but almost all of them are useless. At the end of the day, there's probably maybe 10 recipes that see use in this game, and many of the recipes do the same things as other recipes. I guess they exist to give us options if we run out of ingredients, but unless you are a beginner player - you just aren't going to run out of ingredients. They're everywhere and you get a pile of them!

If they're cheap recipes, I let all my girls learn then and then mark as junk so they are automatically filtered and I'll just sell to NPCs. It's not a perfect fix though.

I wish there was a magic way in game where you could have donation boxes near crafting areas and drop off any extra recipes/resources for anyone who wanted them.

Alternatively, let crafters combine recipes into basic recipe books that we can then share as a single item in guild banks/vendors or trade in person.

I like @CalamityCat 's idea of combining recipes into recipe books. And it does have a parallel with motif style pages/books.

ETA: I'd also like a filter option in the crafting dialog to select only a specific level range - that would make browsing to through much easier, but still let you craft specific items for lower level characters should you need them.

My biggest issue is that it's duplicates of the same recipes every day. If there were new ones more often then I could look forward to it.

I can't dump them in our guild bank because it's full and I wouldn't do that anyway.

I have been putting them on our trader for very cheap rather than just selling them to a merchant, so just in case anyone actually needs these they can get them for a good price.

This isn't a game breaking issue by any means and I only brought it up because it is a minor annoyance to have to spend the time dealing with listing all these on our trader every day.

But I will start learning them on all my alts then will gladly send the extras to any that wants them.

I dont know if it is because of the update today, but I saw a sudden surge in motif's and blueprints in all the purple boxes so far today. Maybe I was just really lucky lol Each box had either a nice blueprint or a cool motif in it now.

Regarding guild banks, some of the guilds I'm in have a rule that only recipes, blueprints, etc. should be deposited in the guild bank, although some members do insist on dumping their extra crafting materials and trash gear as well. In my opinion, materials and gear really should be going into the guild store, not the guild bank, but that's up to each guild to say.

Before I put a recipe, blueprint, etc. in a guild bank, I look to see if there's already a copy there, and if there is, I withdraw it so I can stack everything in my inventory before I deposit into the guild bank. I even go down the list of what's there to see if there are two or more stacks of stuff I'm not about to deposit, so I can withdraw, stack, and redeposit those as well. Most guild members don't have high enough rank to be able to withdraw, so they can't stack duplicate items themselves.

If you're on PC there's an addon you can use for that called Roomba. It scans the guild bank for anything that can be stacked, withdraws it, stacks it in your inventory, then redeposits it. It can take a couple of minutes depending on how much stuff there is to be stacked, but it's quicker & easier than doing the same thing manually.

Thank you for making this thread. I was thinking I just had bad RNG because everyone is talking about getting motifs and I'm like, what motifs? All I'm getting are recipes. :D

This started with last year's Jubilee. They changed the loot tables then to award more purple recipes than motifs, when for years the drop chance was about equal for both. Selling extra recipes had been the main way I made gold. The change made them worthless and crashed the market.

I used to be glued to my computer during previous events and now I'm starting not to care. The time spent grinding boxes is just not worth it anymore.

And yes, I can dump the recipes on my 10 alts but only two can actually benefit from them.

motifs are a little less common, but if they made them drop like the worm cult that one year... they would have no value. The motif market is already sunk mostly, with a few exceptions. I did notice getting one Blind Path motif, so the newest are dropping as well.
