Every ESO event I can remember has had a break for maintenance. It is an inconvenience, but we know it's going to happen and roughly when. I have quests ready to turn in if I'm short of time, or I'll just accept that I get a few less event tickets during the event.

Of course it would be lovely if maintenance was less frequent/shorter/at the right time for everyone. But that's just how ESO is run. Other games have maintenance followed by a big old update download. But again, I know their schedule and work around it as much as I can.

The amount of maintenance this game requires is a bit much. But hey, defend it all you want. It's clearly not going to change.

It wasn't regular maintenance. It was switching cyrodiil back to normal, which cannot be done while the servers were live.

It takes 2 minutes to log in, port to Stonefalls, grab the quest, steal the apples, run to the pig and run back.

Bam - gold coffer, 3 tickets.

You don't have 2 minutes any other time of the day to do this?
Make that 20 minutes including Login queue, fails, errors, LAG, unresponsive controls and disconnects in spite of constant maintenance.

Have you tried to clean/repair your PC?

Even after today's maintenance there wasn't a queue at all.
If you have errors, update/reinstall your addons.
If you have lags, then do a graphics driver update or buy a new graphics card, if you have lags on a 11 years old game.
If you have issues with disconnects, check your router.

Not legit in this case, as they warned us before Vengeance even started that there needed to be a maintenance on either side of it to properly turn it on and turn it off.

    Edit: typos.

Cool, some warning a few days/weeks/months ago doesn't make this any less inconvenient or legitimate. Again, they could've done this the previous week, NOT when there's going to be events live. [snip]

Wait... How could they have done the "close down Vengeance" maintenance before Vengeance was opened? Or are you suggesting that they schedule the "close down Vengeance" maintenance before the Vengeance stuff is live?

I get that the frequent maintenances are frustrating, but this one really didn't have a different time they could do it because of how the patches turned out. Maybe what they could have done was to schedule the Jester's event to come after the Anniversary instead. Sure, that'd mean that it doesn't overlap with April Fool's day, but then the Jester's event wouldn't have overlapped with the Vengeance campaign at all.

That this happens in addition to regular maintenance is an issue, sure. Look, we have the mental capacity to accept the broken system we've been fed because "it cannot be done" while at the same time wishing for a world in which the resources they have at their disposal were being used for the game that is actually generating the revenue. I'd be nice (but I get you, it'll never happen).

There are SO many factors in a dev cycle that contribute to timing. A small amount of downtime during an even for maintenance is a lot less inconvienent than pushing dev times back and putting a pause on things mid sprint.

In the grand scheme of things.. a few hours lost during an event aren't that big of a deal.

The amount of maintenance this game requires is a bit much. But hey, defend it all you want. It's clearly not going to change.

People have been asking for Cyrodiil performance fixes for the past 5+ years, they did a test, some really enjoyed it. I made a good amount of AP and leveled some alts skill lines, but it was a test and need to be reverted. You must really be new around here if you didn't see it coming.

I am happy for the downtime, if it was required. I couldn't do anything hardly in the vengeance campaign, skyshards, harvest, quests, etc.

We knew this one was coming for ages.

They told us way back during the Vengeance Q&A that any new Campaigns (which Vengeance is one of them) need a maintenance on either side to ensure it spins up and spins down properly. So yes, we knew there was going to be one today.

This is only a few hours and it's not the last day of the event. And this was one known that it was coming months in advance.

If the 'maintenance on either side to ensure it spins up and spins down properly.' is so vital to occur as described, why did it need to occur on the morning of the 31st, when the event ends on the following 3rd, which is the earliest that the 'ending side' exists?

    That detail bothers me.

Pretty sure the maintenance would have been necessary to revert Vengence back to the standard campaigns.

It's not maintenance on either side of the Jester's Festival event, it's maintenance on either side of replacing the different Cyrodiil campaigns with the Vengeance campaign for a week, and then reverting back to the normal campaigns. The revert back happened the morning of the 31st along with the maintenance.

    What?

It needed to occur on the last day of the Vengeance tests for two reasons:
    1. Close the Vengeance Campaign
    2. Open the Grey Host/Blackreach/Ravenwatch/Under 50 Campaigns

The Vengeance tests went until the morning of the 31st, so the maintenance needed to be on the morning of the 31st. If they didn't do it, then Vengeance would still be active and the normal Campaigns would not exist.

We had it several times that there would be a maintenance: in the Vengeance Q&A stream, in the Vengeance news article from the 24th... It also ate up exactly 4 hours of the event - an event which is still on for another three days.

Now I do understand that some people can only play ESO during that 4-hour block, so that is painful... but timezones will affect everybody around the world. Don't forget that since they changed the Daily Resets in U37, the entire NA server only gets 4 hours on the last day of an event, which is also very early morning (and time to leave for work) for most US players: 6-10 am EDT or 3-7 am PDT. EU on the other hand gets 12 hours to get tickets on the last day. Seems unfair there, doesn't it? Essentially, we know these interruptions occur, so we either need to deal with losing a day of tickets, or we need to plan around it. And we had plenty of time to plan around this one.

Also in regards to "ugh, maintenance during events!11!11" don't forget that March-April is essentially constant events. The literal second Jester's ends, the Anniversary will start, and that will go until the 22nd.
Is anyone seriously suggesting that the "weeklong Vengeance test" should go from 24 March to 22 April, and that no other Cyrodiil PvP should be available at that time? Because that's what "don't do maintenance!" means. (Also, there are some known issues on PC and console that a "don't do maintenance!" idea would mean "don't fix these bugs!")

This is stressful because I need 3 more tickets to finish the Julianos morphable for rune gathering and it's a 12 hour maintenance. I'm afraid it will be extended and then I Just can't finish it.

The Console maintenances for tomorrow are scheduled for six hours.
It's the ESO Store and Website Account System maintenance which is twelve, and that one doesn't affect the game.

The maintenance happened yesterday morning, and it was much shorter than 12 hours. If you're talking about the maintenance showing up on a banner on the forums April 2, 6:00AM EST (10:00 UTC) - 6:00PM EST (22:00 UTC), that's not for the game, that's for the store and account system. You'll still be able to log in and play during that time. Or if you're talking about the console maintenance, that's for the patch and it's estimated to be 6 hours, not 12.
