Thematic race for healers?

KestrelFive
Welcome your thoughts on what a "thematic/lore friendly" race would be for an Arcanist healer, and separately, a Nightblade healer. I currently have an Altmer Templar healer which fits really well, but looking at these two classes next.

Singling out a specific Race for the archetype of "Healer" is difficult, as all Races have their own variation of a Healer, even if their job titles differ.

Imperials would take Healing as a monetized profession. Think like a Doctor that spent 10 years in University and never misses a chance to flaunt their degree when possible. Same goes for Altmer and Bretons. Basically the higher your Society, the more pompous you get. Argonians and Bosmer are much more attuned to the Natural, Worldly force of Healing. They see it as a Duty, over a Profession, providing their skills to the downtrodden just as much as anyone willing and able to pay. Khajiit Healers are usually Religious. In the sense that they devote their talents to Azurah or Kynareth, but just like Argonians and Bosmer they see their Healing as Duties to the afflicted, and not a service to be charged.

So I think the better question you'd be asking is, "Which Race is most thematic/lore friendly for each Class". Arcanists I would say Dunmer, Altmer, or Imperial. Nightblade's would be again Dunmer, or Bosmer and Khajiit.

All of those three are very likely to be healers because of religious reasons as well. The most common reason for any race to be a healer in Tamriel is likely to be religious. Usually it's the temples that teaches restoration magic.

Well Hermaeus Mora is a daedric prince, so Dark Elf would be a good fit for an arcanist healer, since they worship daedra.

As for a nightblade healer, You could choose any race and make them a "good" vampire who uses blood magic.
Alternatively, you could make a tribal healer, like a Reachman or Argonian/Khajiit or even an Orc.

    Lots of possibilities.

Literally every race has healers. Up to you. Bretons, high elves, and argonians are popular choices. Khajiit as well.

As other people have said all the races have healers (I don't think relationships in Tamriel have ever been good enough that a race could safely give up on training healers and rely on another race providing that service). Likewise any race can fit any class and any class can fit any role. So the only question is which combination appeals to you the most?

For example a Breton or Imperial arcanist would likely have to keep their studies more secreative and so may aim to appear more like a typical mage, where as a dunmer arcanist could be more open about where their knowledge comes from, because the dunmer are less opposed to (many of) the daedric princes.

The beauty of the TES series is that every race/class/role combo can fit in thematically lore-wise. The real question is how YOU want to RP your character and what their lore is. ;)

Arcanist Healer? Breton. Their passives are the best IMO for healing (cost reduction + magicka) and Bretons (in my mind) bind naturally to the arcane, be it damage or healing.

If its a male toon, I'd go with the Friar Tuck hairstyle and a robe. Make it basic and brown.

they are all thematic and lore friendly.

your character is an individual and you choose what they are, they don't need to be the most common or stereotypical thing for their race.

    Not my girl, hehe.

If anything, part of the background I gave her, is she's a Tamrielic agnostic, not giving a damn for neither the Eight Divines, Daedric/Aedric Pantheon, The Tribunal, Al-Makers, etc.

Which's kinda hypocritical of her, as she, as a Templar, bends the power of Aedra to her will.

    Every race has a healer.

It's like asking "what race would be thematic/lore friendly for a cook" > "surprise, everyone eats!"

Arcanists are not connected to any specific in-game race - they're tied to Apocrypha. Some cultures have an easier time with Hermaeus Mora (Bosmer & Nords both have him in their pantheon) but that's about it. It's not a class thing though (and the Black Books pick people seemingly at random).

Nightblade is even odder (since folks think of either Shadowmagic (which is OP) or stealth-assassins). However, visually, you could make a good Orc healer (as their wise-women use blood-magic to heal warriors). The siphon trees "red" is for drain-spells, but could easily be seen as "blood" if you wanted to frame it that way.

But yeah, every race has healers (and merchants, teachers, guards, etc)

While true, I'd be looking for a Bosmer to prepare the meat dishes and a Khajiit for desserts. Not sure how that translates to healers though - maybe something like herbalist versus magic user?

    Dearest,

Everyone prepares meat dishes - the only thing Bosmer do special is fermented (rancid) meat alcohol & occasionally cooking your loved ones. I promise a Nord or Redguard or Orc is just as capable at the BBQ.

Same for sweets. Breton pastries seem to be a go-to, even if Orcs prepare them better - but I'm sure a Dunmer would say they're too sweet or an Altmer will prefer XYZ.

There's no "one true race" for a profession. Every civilization has medics, whether it be the Chirugeons (Surgeons) from Cloudrest, the Hollow-Faced Men from Nohotogrha (Redguards) or wherever.

None of the races of Tamriel would fit the role of healer thematically. Every single one of them are either slavers, cannibals, genocidal, or just outright deceitful. Just at varying levels of extremism.

Yeah people are already saying what it is. Which race makes the best healers comes from an incomplete perspective on at least how elder scrolls works.

No one race is a homogeny. Even if they're all from the same region. Northern and southern elsweyr have very different cultures. Even in game I've seen healers in bandit groups add as state allies and ass temple priest and as doctors for money. (And that was just in the telvani peninsula and some side quests I saw there)

TLDR People from the same region who are the same race do the same jobs for DIFFERENT reasons. It's easier to answer this for the backstory of the character you're making. ( YouBudding storyteller. 😉)
